"They" said we were getting..

Oh jeez. Billick? Schottenheimer? Chucky and the Chin weren't available, but I'm not sure that's not because they don't want to go anywhere near this ownership. I would have a hard time believing in this coach even if I thought he was going to succeed or fail on his own merits, but he's chained to Jeff freaking Ireland.

That, and this guy lost his son two weeks ago. Not saying that should disqualify him as a coach forever but who knows what kind of an emotional state he's in now. I don't know what to think about this coach, but what I do know? The media is no more worthy of doubting than this team's ownership and front office is based on track record.

I see. I wanted to see Billick and MARTY Schottenheimer at least get an interview. But once I saw Toub and Zimmer eliminated and the two aforementioned coaches clearly not being given a chance, I guess Philbin became my favorite partially because I'm not too sold on Mike McCoy. I'm happy, although I wish Ross would've expanded the search more. I just don't want Philbin, who seems like a good coach and a good man, to be hamstrung by Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb in our front office, Ireland and Ross.

Exactly, let's remember that Flynn is an option but let's not pretend we think he is the main target. For all we know Philbin coups have told Ross and Ireland not to waste your time chasing him in free agency. The topic connecting Flynn to Miami is media speculation at this point.

Agree. I'm starting to wonder if it is the media that makes us look like clowns with all the inaccurate reporting.

and yet jeff ireland is the idiot for not telling anyone anything. he is just a control freak ya know.

Why dont you believe in him? Know him personally?

I dont get the notion that sparano or anyone else got hamstrung by Ross (who doesnt get involved in football decisions) and Ireland (who let sparano get his coveted OL in columbo and Jerry). Doest really jive to me.

I see it quite differently than bad attitude fans of south florida. I think people buy too much into what the media reports. Ireland is more collaborative than authoritative IMO. But as GM you need to put your foot down if you believe you are right. Ireland did well in his draft last year IMO. With Philbin on board, I am betting that Ireland will be talking alot to Philbin in the coming days about may personell decisions, particularly with the 3-4 defense. On offense, its philbin who will garner his players to fit his scheme. If Ireland shows that he gets guys that Philbin cant fit into his system, then Ireland can be ultimately found to be more authoritative IMHO.

I have to agree the silence is ridiculous. I hope this hiring changes the way we do things. I for one would like to see our coach on more talk shows like Sirius NFL Radio and such to get more recognition and hear what is happening with our team.

BTW, REggie Bush is going to be much better with philbin

You know, you'd be surprised! I actually don't know him personally, though I think I've seen him on the sidelines at the Orange Bowl about 50 times. Judged on his own merits, I'm ambivalent towards Philbin. When you add the fact that Ireland and Ross will be meddling in what he does, that pushes me to the doubting category.

Are you saying that if Philbin fails, you'd be okay with Ireland staying on with whoever the next coach is? I am not trying to put words into your mouth, just trying to clarify. Is there a scenario where Philbin fails and you would want Ross to retain Ireland for coach #3?

I understand. My point is Fisher's ultimate reasoning for not coming here has been rumored to be because he didn't have the 50/50 split on personnel. I don't want another Vince Young situation here, where Philbin has a TROUBLED player who he can't get rid of simply because the owner and GM like him, believe in his potential, etc.

Well, it has also been mentioned that although Fisher didn't go to Miami, he would LOVE to have Ireland in his FO.

Once again, we can't read ANYTHING into what the Media says.

I remind everybody once again, there were media outlets in Miami that reported the Harbaugh hiring, and the fact he was on Ross' private jet on his way back to Miami this last Summer.

Tony Sparano was hamstrung by his own incompetence.
