FORMER HUSKY BERGER SIGNED TO DOLPHINS’ 53-MAN ROSTER
Offensive Lineman Will Play on Sundays in Miami
HOUGHTON, Mich. -- Former Michigan Tech football player Joe Berger (Newaygo, Mich.) will be playing in the National Football League for the Miami Dolphins this year. The offensive lineman, who was originally drafted by the Carolina Panthers, was picked up by the Dolphins yesterday and placed on their 53-man roster.
Berger was a two-time All-American and Academic All-American for Michigan Tech before graduating last May with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was drafted in the sixth round of the NFL draft in April and spent all preseason in Carolina. The Panthers put Berger on their practice squad before the Dolphins came calling.
“This is great news for Joe and our football program,†said 19th-year MTU head coach Bernie Anderson. “We’re all very excited for him, and we know that he’ll represent Michigan Tech University well.â€Â
According to reports, Berger is slated to be second on the depth chart at the center position. He will likely be on the field for Sunday’s season opener. Miami hosts the Denver Broncos at 1 p.m.
