They looked like strong hands.
so really since one of the possible causes is impaired brain chemistry. Brain abnormalities would classify as a mental illness or am I missing something. Also if Im not mistaken arent medications quite commonly prescribed for the depression aspects of it . I know people diagnosed with BPD and I know that various meds have been prescribed such as citalopram and venlaxfaxine. I believe the last one was for anxiety
People with Borderline often also have a corresponding Axis I diagnosis, usually Major Depressive Disorder or Bipolar Disorder. If they are on any medication, it would be for the Axis I that usually accompanies their Borderline, not the Borderline itself. There are quite a few cases of people being diagnosed with only Borderline and not an Axis I to go with it. It is much more rare for a male to be diagnosed Bipolar than it is to have no Axis I diagnosis to go with the Axis II personality disorder, so it wouldn't surprise me.
No one knows what causes Personality Disorders. Brain chemistry is all-encompassing and is like saying that dude broke his leg because something bad happened to him. It is not an Axis I because they have not been able to find an organic reason for it, so your "brain chemistry" claim is completely without merit. More than likely, the personality disorders come from some environmental cues during the client's upbringing, usually how they were raised by the parents. I'm not saying anything like that is the case with Marshall. No one would know that outside of his psychologist. Just throwing out a few examples...
