Keep defenses on their heels with a no-huddle offensive scheme - if executed to the letter. Yes?

This will tire out defensives fast during home games because of the heat down here, and win us more games: even some games that most of us have already dashed as loses.. Maybe?

This could - a high pace offensive - win us the wild card. Yes?

Of course many more factors MUST be executed precisely in order to have even a dim chance at this happening. But remember, Tanne, if selected as the starter, is good in the pocket, scrambles/runs very well, a solid defensive, a few to no injuries during the season, effective play calling, and some good contributions from our special teams/rooks, MAY have us back-into the playoffs.

Certainly many, many other things must go right for us to even have a slight chance at of all this happening, yet that chance does indeed exists.

Your angle?

We'll know of this potentially happening by the bye week, IMO.

Anything is possible...thats the beauty of the NFL, teams often go from bottom to top in one year.

It may not be likely or probable, but it is possible.

Running the offense faster means little if you do not run well.

If done well, and it will take a while until it is, it could be one of 27 reasons why we have a good season.

I think you're on to the reason that many of us are excited that at least we are pointed in the right direction. Not even Buffalo did the no-huddle all the time when it was a new innovation, though. Let's hope that we get a sense that the offense has joined this century and have some fun this season. The next time I see a "Henningsaurus Rex" or a "Dabolasaur" is in a museum.

I think what will really count on offense is establishing a crisp offensive rhythm early in games by getting plays into the huddle smoothly and quickly, getting to the line with plenty of time left on the clock, and executing plays successfully with minimal pre-snap penalties. Those are the signs of a well-coached offense, and that's what the Fins should aim to be from the get-go because that's the key to success on offense. If they can do this regularly, they will be able to run pretty good hurry-up/no huddle offenses and two-minute drills when those scenarios are called for.

While I agree there is advantages to running faster pace offenses, there are also some draw backs. Even with the most productive, talented high speed offenses that have a ton of experienced talent running the show (which we don't yet have) a fast paced offense puts tons of pressure on the defense. Fast paced offense almost always insures that you defense is going to be on the field well over half the game. Fast paced offense have lots of 3 and outs or quick strike scores, either of which puts the defense right back out on the field. Even without the fact that we lost a great defensive cordinatior in Nolan, we can expect our defense to suffer at the hands of a high paced offense. Last years offense was hard to watch at times but one thing that it DID accomplish was to give the defense time to rest, prepare and make adjustments. Don't expect our defense to be top 10 this year in points, total yards, or time of possession. I would lay even money that we are not top ten in at least two of those three.

Are you really a Bill's fan? I appreciate that your posts are always well written and thought out.

It would be great to get back to the days of having offensive rhythm and a sense that things are going according to a plan even if the results aren't always perfect.

From what I garnered...If the Fins execute the plays the coach gives them...then they will win games.

Sounds legit

I agree with your basic point... fast paced offense can be a two-edged sword. We weren't that great last year in terms of TOP and we were really bad during the last 3 games. I posted part of this yesterday but we ranked 12th last year for TOP but our last three games would have put us at 21st place between Oakland and Detroit. Green Bay was actually ahead of us for the season average. I don't think it can get too much worse. It isn't unreasonable to expect that for all of our shorter TOP drives with 3 downs we should have a few that continue on 3rd down.

Thanks, and yes, I am a Bills fan. When the Fins get good, then I'll get back to hating on them. It's no fun kicking somebody when he's down.

I know exactly what you mean about having an offensive rhythm, because when Dick Jauron was the Bills HC, they had none. None. It was painful to watch. When Chan Gailey became the Bills HC and took over the offense and finally made Fitzpatrick the starter, it was like, "OMG! They can pass! They can run! They can NOT take stupid off-sides penalties every series! They can actually execute a 2 minute drill without having to call a TO to avoid a delay of game flag!" It was a revelation, let me tell you! I think if their OL had stayed healthy last season, they would have been at least 8-8, even with their crappy pass defense.

Miami had a lot of the same problems on offense last season as the Jauron-led Bills O did from 2007-2009, so I just laugh when Jests fans wax ecstatic over Tony Sparano as their OC. I fail to see how a HC who never had a decent offense is going to make a good OC. It's NOT about the quality of the personnel, it's about the quality of the coaching, and Sparano hasn't demonstrated that.

We also ran the ball a lot last season. I wonder if one reason was to eat up the clock. We had a exactly 50/50 running attempts to passing attempts last season. I owe a lot of our TOP to the fact that we ran so often.

If fact, you could say that we were a "running team" last season.

We were 6th in rushing attempts per game with a 29.3 per game average and we averaged 4.2 yards per carry.

On the other hand we were tied at 28th with Jacksonville in passing attempts per game with 29.3 per game and we averaged 7.3 yards per attempt.

Better be productive on 1st and 2nd down. This offense gets itself in 3rd and long often and we are in trouble.
Have to eliminate the stupid penalties in order to stay out of long downs. Limit the false starts and the holding.
