I know many people were not pleased with the last performance from the offense but I am ecstatic about this offense. Why you ask, after the first team offense didn't score one TD? As a football coach I'm evaluating and watching these games a little differently than the casual fan. And what I saw was an offense that from my recollection has not had 1 3 and out this entire pre-season. Compared to the last several years, that alone is reason for applause.
This offense seems to move the ball at will and was only stopped by uncommon mistakes. One drive we're moving the ball pretty well and Dion Sims fumbles fighting for extra yardage (happens to the best of em) On another drive, Brian Hartline drops an easy pass that would have resulted in a first down. And we all saw the terrible INT tannehill threw. I'm not sure he even attempts that throw in a game that counts.
Those are all things that can and do happen to the best teams. What I was looking for this preseason is signs that this new Lazor offense actually works. Does it create mismatches? Does it get people open BY DESIGN and not rely on the skills of each player to create separation. And from everything I've seen this pre-season I'm going to have to say yes. Now what I want to see is our players making the play when it comes to them. They don't have to be Dez Bryant's or Lesean McCoy's (Although that would be great) But Tannehill needs to make the throws, receivers need to make the catches and running backs need to hit the holes and hard and hold on to the ball.
We do that and i think we make the playoffs, and in the next couple of years if we can find some game changers at key positions I think we can contend for a Title.
