Rookie guard Donald Thomas, who was put on injured reserve after suffering a foot injury in the season opener, is already close to healthy and is expected to participate in the off-season workout program.

"I'll definitely be ready by March," he said. "I'm chomping at the bit. I'll be ready for the first (off-season training sessions) and all that stuff, full go."

Great news

A healthy return by Thomas would be the first step in solving the "can't run between the tackles" problem.

HOLLA......if he shows the same promise he showed in summer then we are in business.

Getting Donald Thomas and Justin Smiley back will go a long way to helping our running game. Now we just need to bring in a center like Alex Mack or Brown to push Satele at C.

Not 100% sure, but I heard in one the reports from the senior bowl that he has been getting pushed around in the practices. Although all of the reporters seem to be impressed with the DT's in the game.

Awsome

Awsome news on Thomas, seems like the front office has lots of confidence in him to be our starter this year at RG.

Now if we can just resign Carey and land a dominant C our oline could top 5 in the league and because of its youth will only get better.

Id still keep Satele,Murphy and Al Jhonson around for quality depth at C and G, also it would be wise for us to use one of our late round picks for some good depth at LT and RT.

The following Oline would be really good i think.....

LT-Long/late round pick
LG-Smiley/Al Jhonson
C-Brown from Ravens or early round pick/Satele
RG-Thomas/Murphy
RT-Carey/late round pick

Thoughts anyone ?

Why would we draft a LT?

Depth

"why would we draft a LT ?"

For Depth behind Long and also Carey, so it may be a good idea to use a late round pick to backup both LT and RT, as a LT can usually play RT but somtimes its hard for a RT to play LT, see our own Vernon Carey a couple of years ago.
