Every team has injuries. And we have had our share.
But the playoff contenders have the depth and next man up attitude to survive the injuries.
We lack depth on the Oline, Secondary , LB, RB just to name a few positions.
we need another good draft or Two and a a couple of good hits on FA's to
really contend in the future.
The HC and QB of the future are still question marks

A year or two away with no coach and no qb? Lol ok. Sounds like 5 years to me...

So tired of hearing this. Miami is longer away because they can't find a competent coach. The talent they do have usually goes to waste under bad coaches. When one coach gets fired, some of that talent is too old (happening to Wake) or injured (Jake Long) and they are disposed of under the new coach. The new coach starts growing new talent and is fired usually because it's taking too long to blossom and then the talent starts prospering under yet another new coach who wants to get rid of the current talent because they aren't his guys or don't fit his system. This cycle has been going on too long.

The "year away" myth is bullcrap. Team's don't magically progress and get more wins the next year. Qb's who have a strong arm don't magically learn to do things that they haven't learned by year 3. Coaches who loses games with ridiculously bad game management decisions don't stop making those because you can't fix stupid. For every talented player we bring in, there is going to be a Cameron Wake, Brent Grimes, and Randy Starks who is aging and will need replacing. Guys like Odrick will become FA's and get signed away.

Knowing how to win in the NFL is a skill that some coaches and some QB's have, and the guys we have in the most important positions just don't have the skill to do that consistently because of their own shortcomings. After 3 seasons, Tannehill and Philbin aren't developing that at all, they are stagnant. Every time they have a chance to make statement wins, and they have been giftwrapped for us the last two years, they fail miserably, because they aren't winners in a sport where a lot of really skilled guys still fail.

100% accurate.

Thread reminds of that sign you see in bars: "free beer tomorrow."

Except when I see that sign I'm usually drinking and happy. Not so much with this thread. :(

When all is said and done competent qb play and coaching and we are in the playoffs the past 2 years.

They are both horrendously incompetent. They both need to go far far far away.

The solution is to get a roach who doesn't insist on reinventing the roster, which oddly enough happens pretty consistently around the league, whereas the teams who let new head coaches remake their roster are usually searching for new head coaches in 3-4 years because even with a dozen draft picks it's hard to replenish a roster's talent if you've shipped out all you've got already.

Plus it takes Miami at least half a decade to turn a need into a strength. How long Miami been working on the O-line now? How long since Miami had a reliable featured back? TE? LBs?

Give me a damn break. We say this s1ht all the time and every year!!!! I'm tired of it.

No. This team like several others in the NFL, is simply a good QB away from contending. That has been the story with this team since Marino retired. We had a good QB one season........ we contended. We lost in the first round of the playoffs, but we managed to win the division.
