I want to see this team get younger across the board at every position starting ASAP. I know it may be painful to see some of the vets go, but it is a necessary evil we have to deal with in the short run to pay long term dividends. I believe we have some of the youthful pieces in place already like Roth, R. Wright, J. Toledo, J. Allen, Crowder, Brown, F.Evans, V. Carey, Y. Bell, to name a few. We need to Draft much smarter as in best player available instead of reaching to fill a need(all draft picks make the team would be great, ala the Pats). I am willing to give Cam and gang time if we DO IT RIGHT THIS TIME!!

We don't need to get rid of the good players we have now just because they may be old, we just need to draft better to keep infusing the team with good young players who are ready to step up and take their places when they are ready...

pffft please tell us WHO you would send packing to achieve this remarable turnaround... I think you are simply parroting what the "media" has said... sooo, please, explain just exactly what YOU would do...

I dont care about age....the older players right now are our best ones.. every team has and needs veteran leadership. Plus, the young players need to be good in order for this plan to work...can't have an nfl bust carrying a team to the Super Bowl now...sure age is a necessity in the near future...but let's concentrate on having a decent draft and staying healthy

Its a mix. You keep guys like Holliday who are playing at a high level, unless of course you draft alan Branch or Okoye. You keep David Bowens because he knows the system and plays an important support role position. If our team was revamping the entire defense again, then all these guys would just be gone.

One guy(s) who should defenitely be gone is Zgonina and Wilkinson (he didnt do much during the season but looked great in preseason). You can get rid of most but keep the producers for another year or two.

EXACTLY.. well put

FAST?

When? Today? Tomorrow? Hurry, hurry, Now!

This team is not so far away from being a contender, and no way I want to throw away any chance of competing just so we get "young". Any contending team has a mix of age and youth, the "old" guys are usually the ones winning the games for you. I see absolutely no basis put forth by you as to why or how you would do this, just a silly belief seemingly held for reasons probably only the media could explain. These are exactly the kind of threads that make me so glad I finally joined the VIP section.

I agree we need some talented young players but it's not like you get them off the street. We are in the vacum of poor drafting for 10 or so years. We just cant go getting the quality young players off other teams you know, they might actually want something in return...which we don't have.

Randy Mueller already shot that down brother...he said that it would be insane to get rid of his vets now being that they are playing at such a high level.

This age thing is so overhyped. :shakeno:

Will Allen: 29
Travis Daniels: 25
Jason Allen: 24
Y. Bell: 28

Crowder: 24
Zach: 34
OLB: (Im assuming we acquire a new OLB through FA or the draft)
OLB: (JT is this spot in the 3-4)

Taylor: 33
Roth: 25
Wilkinson: 34

Those are all ages that they will be by the start of next season or sometime in 07. Our offense isn't old either besides Booker maybe. We have some vet backups, but they will be fine for the next couples years in reserve roles. Youth isn't as much a factor as just getting some play makers on the offensive side of the ball. Our D-line isnt young but remember we have drafted a few guys that show some very good promise.

All of the Patriots draft picks didn't make their team, and they won their Super Bowls with a lot of veterans.

I'm constantly amazed how people assume youth automatically equals talent. If you're playing in a complex system, veterans are very helpful and tend to make less mistakes.

This team doesn't have to "get younger fast". It just needs to draft well and make wise personnel decisions, and the future will start taking care of itself.

I pretty much agree.

I dont want a young team, I dont want an old team either. I want a team that has a nice balance of both. Old guys stay in the league so long because they can be an asset to a team, whether it be in a limited role or not. I like age on my D-line, because even if they have lost a step they make up for it in football IQ.
