Disclaimer: As he continues his career new games will surpass this one...but SO FAR this is his biggest game.

Reasons:

1. Even under a QB like Chad Henne Miami was in the playoff race with a similar record; however, we NEVER one the big game. A win on the road against an improving Steeler team would show wonderful progress under Tannehill and the ability to win a clutch game, a game you need to continue competing for the playoffs.

(Reason 2 Disclaimer: Clearly less important than 1, and I was also the person who posted the 20td hypothesis)

2. Tannehill currently sits at 17tds and 13ints. He could easily have a 1td/3int game or a 0td/2int game and sit somewhere around 18/16 or 17/15...which will continuously show he does not make enough big plays to make up for his mistakes. BUT, with a good game with 2td/0int or 3td/1int or even a 2td/1int it further separates his td/int ratio. If we leave sunday with a qb at 19td 14int or best case 20td and 14int....at least to me it would mean something.

3. Experience in cold weather, win on the road, playoff implications etc...needless to say if he is the reason we win, we should all be very happy...while at same token if he is reason we lose...there is concern. If we lose and its not because of him directly, we can sit and continue arguing whether he is legit or not...which in itself is a bad thing.

LETS GO FINS! BIG GAME!

I agree with you. However, all season I've seen lazy plays and drops from Wallace. I've seen RT have to consistently make throwing decisions in less than 3 seconds and not have the time or space to step into long throws. Seen non-existent running game at times. And head-scratching play calling that wont take advantage of some of his best skills, like throwing on the run.
He would develop better and faster if these were fixed, and indications are that they are getting better.

But I'm not ready to throw him under the bus if they lose. He's still very young and he has flashes of real talent. He's especially poised (maybe even at his best) when running two minute drill. Something does seem to be in the air though- RT could be breaking out finally. He also could lose a lot of confidence and start cratering- but I'd lay my money on him finishing the season strong. This week is definitely his biggest stage ever as far as what is expected and needed from him, and how much it means.

I agree with all of your points for the most part...the amount of drops are similar to the amount of bad throws ryan has given wallace. The o-line and drops have not allowed him to play his best football so far...BUT, having said all this, good QBS can win games despite this and this is one would be huge for him.

Roughly half of the throws in the NFL are made in 2.5 seconds or less, let alone throwing "decisions," which are likely made even faster than that.

Also, Tannehill's QB rating is 17 points higher when he throws the ball in 2.5 seconds or less.

I assume so! If he takes more than 2.5 he'll have tipped pass or throwing from his back! Quick passes are our onl chance- he does need to just let it rip deep and trust wallace to be there. Trust wallace- oxymoron. Anyway i fear sherman stunting his growth by not letting him be more carefree.

Then again, the average QB in the league has a QB rating just more than 10 points worse on throws made after 2.5 seconds after the snap.

In other words, QB play after 2.5 seconds after the snap tends to be less productive and successful in general.

Not really. Some plays are designed to have the ball come out quick. A lot of passing offenses in the league have the quick one read throw.
The problem you run into is on those designed plays to get the ball down the field, and the qb doesnt have the time to do so.

There is a huge difference between throwing in less than 2.5 seconds because the defense gave you wanted on a play designed to get the ball out quick one i.e. quick slants, bubble screens, a quick 5 yard out to get a first down, and only having 2.5 seconds to hit wallace on a fly route or a double move scenario.

This is where you cant just compare one two seconds situation in the pocket to another as apples to apples...

He has played well on the road.

He needs to connect on the deep balls more and he needs to do a better job of finding the open WR or throwing it quickly to the outlet.

It's his biggest game to date I agree.

His strength is definitely not making plays when the called play does not work. Russel, Luck and Ben all do very well at prolonging plays and making good plays out of adjustments when the defense has the called play snuffed.

Sherman probably does not let him or encourage him to do it is my guess
