Last year, Pennington was always on the field for the Wildcat.

On Monday night, I noticed that Pennington was no longer on the field for the Wildcat.

So there is at least one substitution, possibly more.

Who was on the field for a typical wildcat play?

5 linemen, Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams, Patrick Cobbs, and 3 TEs?

this is a good question... its not about whining over one thing or another so its apparently getting passed over...

i know Cobbs has taken Pennington's position on the field out wide, but i dont know who the extra person is... we only have 2 active TEs so its not 3 TEs... i think its Polite... but id have to double check the video when i get home because i am curious also...

Yeah, it's probably not 3 TEs.

But I was thinking that if there's no QB on the field, then there's no real point in having small speedy guys like Ted Ginn on the field. And thus, I was thinking that maybe we were loading up on big dudes to squash the smallish Colts defense.

I would like to see Pat White split wide taking an end-around with a pass/throw option. I think there would be all kind of plays out of that formation.

taking penny out eliminates the deep pass option we ran with penny split out to WR. We need either penny or white in their to make the opposing d respect the pass option. a team like the colts never played against the wildcat and we had great success. if we keep the same style next week against the chargers (with no pass option) i dont see us having anywhere near the same success we had on monday night because they know the run is coming.

well if im not mistaken ronnie played qb in highschool so he has i guess the knowledge if you would say of throwing a ball if need be atleast thatswhat he did that time i stomped the patgirls

that could be it but ronnie did play qb in hs so maybe they have confidence that he can make the pass if need be but you know the wildcat is more effective with ronnie/ricky rushing

I think they will get White in on that formation soon. There are so many options out of that formation.

I played against a team in high school that used a single wing. We spent the whole week studying all their options and making sure someone was assigned to a certain option. With White in there, his dynamics make the defense have to worry about even more options.

The team we played sucked, so we easily shut down their single wing. Hopefully our Phins can ride the coat tails of this formation for awhile longer because they run it beautifully.

Ok, I took a look at some of the WK2 Ronnie Brown highlights on NFL.com

It appears that Polite and Haynos are the extra guys on the field.

So it appears that the new wildcat package is 5 linemen, Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams, Patrick Cobbs, Lousaka Polite, Anthony Fasano, Joey Haynos.

It's an interesting new twist. No WRs or QBs on the field. Pure bruising power.

Future teams will probably try to counter by removing some of their DBs, and installing more LBs.

You have to play the wildcat like it is option football. Assignment football will stop it. It is confusing as all hell though :hi5:

It is confusing. I hope when White gets involved that defenses won't be able to take away and one option.
