This time last week, coaches held Donald Thomas out of contact drills to keep him from coming back too fast from an off-season pectoral injury.
In the past two days, Thomas has been back in the mix and is beginning to show signs of the player who earned a starting spot during camp last summer.
Thomas took the majority of snaps with the first-team offense Tuesday, replacing Shawn Murphy, who opened and closed practice with the starting offense.

Great News

Guess it really was Shawn Murphy's job to lose. I knew there was something fishy going on with how he sprang right up to the first team.

As CK alluded to in the movers and shakers thread, and I think he's dead on, it was a ploy to keep Donald motivated and "earn" the starting spot back.

By all counts Murphy is playing far better than last year and he worked his tail off to earn the chance. I am hopeful that he will continue to push Thomas and make them both better. It will only benefit the team having both of those guys ready to go on any given day.

I seriously think whoever plays better between Thomas & Murphy will start. I dont think Miami has Murphy playing starting RG just because. I believe the kid has worked his tail and him & Thomas are in a serious battle. The way I see it is that Miami is building some serious depth along the line, especially the addition of Gardner.

Pennington limping isn't good...Hopefully it isn't that ankle.

Im sure the reporters would have been all over it. If he would have been injured. Relax.....

We really took a gamble by not drafting a guard, but now it seems as though we just dodged a bullet.

Maybe but I would rather have another quality player to develop

Yea, the J.D. Folsom pick just seems like a throw-away. Even if we took another LB, Darry Beckwith went undrafted. Another good OL or DL prospect couldn't have hurt.

Apparently they knew what they had in Murphy and also knew Thomas was going to be fine.

Thomas will retake his starter status I presume and Murphy will give us quality depth that we didn't have last year.

Looks like Smiley or Grove (who are both good) might be our weakest run blockers. Damn that is strong.
