Those "Meaningless Wins" Proved Not-So-Meaningless

I never expected coaches and players to tank games on purpose. My main gripe is when someone calls tanking a coward move, which it isnt, its a strategic move that benefits your org in the future.

If the head of your football operation is not trying to win games in the current season becuase he's got his eyes set for the the following seasons, then by definition, he views wins in the current season meaningless. No?

No. it's simply a risk he is willing to take.

There is no such thing as a meaningless win, although some fans who didn't want the team to win feel that way.

and no one gets this. I mean 5 wins may have cost us the franchise qb OR cost us the draft capital we need for sustainability. Let's face it, it wasn't Flores that brought them here, it was the $100M. I didn't really hear anyone making offers to these players. These same posters will be escorting Flores out the door in a season or two if he fails
And that's exactly what is going to happen to Flores if he doesn't find a franchise QB.

Still would love to hear someone who was pro "tanking " explain exactly how they envision that taking place. ...and why we keep seeing responses to other posters who don't agree as though they share some cause and effect blame for these so called meaningless wins.

A) how do you tank? Drop the ball on purpose, throw int's on purpose, throw a hail Mary from the 3yd line?

B) How do I effect a win on the field? How is a win or loss on my shoulders?

I have about as much to do with what happens on the field as does my dead ancestor.
Pretty freaking easy. Gut the roster, check. Trade away two young talented players, check. And here is where they blew it, don't play an experienced gun slinging QB. They should not of had Fitzpatrick on this roster. Have you ever heard of Curtis Painter. That's what a tank looks like. Grier couldn't even get losing right.

Wow those meaningless wins let us sign the highest paid corner in the NFL. No doubt money had nothing to do with that, it was all about those 5 wins lol.

I’m all seriousness the team would’ve been much better off winning 2 or 3 games and not having to consider trading valuable picks to move up in the draft a whopping 2 or 3 spots.

We would’ve signed the same free agents 2 wins or 5 but think what you want.

People who value draft position would rather we lose, people who enjoy each and every win even if it's only 5 in a season would rather we win as many as possible. Having different opinion's does not make one a bad fan, at the end of the day we all want the same thing a good football team that contends for Super Bowls.

Personally if we're not fighting for a playoff spot than the wins don't do much for me unless it's the Pats because fock Bill and Tom, I just can't get excited about a 5-11 season. The only thing to look forward to is seeing how the young talent plays.

Yep, and when we end up with Herbert and are eternally 8-8 again, you can be happy about those 5 wins.

But hey, we beat Brady in New England woo hoo...

This is an extremely odd reply to a very realistic post. Guy never said he was happy with 5 wins, just stated the truth.

Finding a head coach who can take a Completely depleted roster and make them a winning physical confident bunch, a team who can go on the road and beat the freakin champs is not ****ing meaningless..giving the whole organization direction and leadership with tangible results is worth a hell of a lot more than any ****in Qb.

This head coach went 5 and 4 in their last nine, anyone thinking this coach can’t win unless he has a franchise guy is not accurate imo.

I want a Tua as bad as anyone, I’m just happy that Flores is’nt a weak desperate man waiting for his savior..

What flores did with nothing was more than Gase ever did with something. We played like a well coached team. Our low talent oline pass blocked fairly well. This was with NO run game at all. Parker became an elite wr.

Flores accomplished a ton in his first hear. Its very difficult for me to understand skeptics after seeing how quickly he turned a team with no talent into a well coached tough out every week.
