I wanna get everyone's thoughts on this saturday's game against the Bucs

here are my thoughts:

1. QBs- Culpepper will play the 1st quarter. He needs more than just one series. He needs to take hits and he needs to get back into game mode. JH looked sharp throwing the ball in his first game as a phin but he needs to concentrate on making better decisions before the snap (aka fumbling). Saban prides on his teams doing the things that win football games. JH needs to do that to have any promise of getting starts if C-pep isn't ready. CL showed me something in the first preseason game. Granted it was against the third stringers but he has some promise and could be a nice fill in if JH cannot perform as backup.

2. RBs- Ronnie just needs to keep working on hard on his fundamentals and he should be solid. I am more concerned with who is backing him up. Travis minor has been a proven 3rd down back and a change of pace. Sammy is experienced but i do not think he is going to get into the back up role. KJ seems to have the same style as RW, he is big and he is quick. I feel he should get a shot to really get some playing time and possibly be the change of pace of Ronnie when he needs a breather.

3. WRs- NEED WORK. Chambers and Booker need to keep in rythem where we have no idea who will be the #3. I think there is good depth but i still see Hagan being #3. But you couldn't tell that by looking at the last preseason game. Other guys stepped it up. Welker should stay on ST and be in at WR only in certain situations

4. OL- They looked great protecting culpepper in the first game, albeit for just one series. But they did look sharp. Houck has these guys ready to go

5. DB- injuries injuries injuries. Not the step saban needed to take for those guys. We need to have them healthy and they have to get into the scheme of things because they had a very very hard time covering receivers against JAX. Area that needs most improvement in my opinion. The team cannot be burned on deep plays. Doesnt that sound like the Wanny/Bates era? Getting burned late in games....:fire:

I think thats the areas i wanted to hit on...let me know what you think we should look for going into the second preseason game

i hate the bucs and i live n tampa and wen i go to the preaseason games dolphins lose
and im not goin. so we win.

I disagree about Culpepper playing the whole quarter. Maybe a couple of series, but not the whole thing. I would wait till the 3rd game to do that. Part of it is that I still want to see more out of Harrington and Lemon (who I believe ought to be competing for the #2 spot).

As for Ronnie, I get a little frustrated with the dancing around he does before he finally commits to an upfield run. I'd like to see him run with a little more conviction and a little less flair.

As for WRs, still on the Marcus Vick watch. I'm really starting to pull for him to make this team over Campbell.

Excellent, cause usually when I go, we win, like a few years ago when we won on a hail mary pass to the end zone on the final play of the game. I will be at RayJay on Saturday night and hopefully that means good things. My win-loss record for when I GO to the game is pretty good. Then again, this is only preseason. so if we lose this one, i'm gonna use that excuse.

I agree. I remember one play clearly last game there was a hole to his right but instead he dance around behind his blockers. But it preseason so I think his vision will open up more.

Dante needs to get some work in and i want to see the DBs play a little better than they did against the Jags. The Bucs have some talent on offense so it should be a good test to see what the defensive backs are capable of.

Coach Saban, is that you?

Seriously (NOT) I hope we see DC for a full quarter, then JH/CL/BB each get a quarter. Although I don't see why we need Berlin in there, he obviously isn't going to make this squad, PS maybe at best.

More concerned with secondary not getting burned than anything else.

I do not think Pepper will get a whole Quarter, as much as two series, if it is less then a quarter, then his time is done, if it's for more then a quarter, so be it. Joey does still have things to work out, but he is getting better, hopefully if continues, and as for Lemon, he does show some talent, we do need to keep a eye on him.

2. RBs- Ronnie just needs to keep working on hard on his fundamentals and he should be solid. I am more concerned with who is backing him up. I think if Ronnie continues to work hard, he will be much better then solid, and I have a feeling Sammy will be getting the backup role rather then Minor, which is a shame for me, because I did like what he brought to the team when he took over for Ricky.....KJ is a very intriguing choice, and I agree with you, if he succeeds, we are set at backup.

3. WRs- NEED WORK. Chambers and Booker need to keep in rythem where we have no idea who will be the #3. I think there is good depth but i still see Hagan being #3. I don't think the WR is going to be that bad, I expect to see another great year from Chambers (Especially now that Miami has such a strong armed and acurate QB), Booker should be at worse consistant enough to make team pay if they double team Chambers, Hagan has plenty of talent, and it wil show soon enough, Welker has proven to be too big a money receiver to only allow him out there on certain situations, Campbell and Culpepper have worked well before, and that will not change if he makes it on this team, Gibson has come into his own, which is a very good thing to have such a big receiver showing the skills people expcted from him, and finally you have receivers like Vick, Aromashodu, and Russell who have impressed in camp. We will be alright at receiver.

4. OL- They looked great protecting culpepper in the first game, albeit for just one series. But they did look sharp. Houck has these guys ready to go

Hopefully they continue to improve, and work well with each other, but I agree, the 1st team did dominate, and look good.

5. DB- injuries injuries injuries. Not the step saban needed to take for those guys. I agree, even with all the pressure Miami's front 7 will surely be producing on opposing offenses, the DBs will have to play better then they did (On a good note though it was not really the 1st string that looked that bad), these injuries to the secondary is cause for concern.

I think thats the areas i wanted to hit on...let me know what you think we should look for going into the second preseason game

I expect the 2nd game to be played with less mistakes, personally it is not did we win or lose that is important in preseason, but how did our starters look against theirs, and did our backups do a good enough job for us not to be too worried.

I would like to see ronnie hit the hole where the play is designed and if that's closed than improvise. It's almost like he's unsure where to go once the play develops. He's still dancing around in the backfield. Hopefully that will change the more he becoms comfortable. I have pictures of John Avery dancing in the backfield when I see ronnie back there.

I'd like to see Cleo get some snaps with the first team. Let him come in after culpepper because most of the first team will still be in.

More plays geared towards Hagan. He was obsolete last wk.

Call me crazy but i'm not worried about the secondary. Daniels has a sprain and he will be rested up. He's the most experianced CB in Saban's system. All he'll need is some conditioning. Saban will use Will Allan's great run defense to the team's advantage. I would like him as the nickleback.

I'm rooting for Vick as well. I believe he's done alot of growing up and he's the reciever on the team with the most upside.
