I know he can't play center, but I don't blame him for that. We, for some reason, had no backup center on the roster. But what do ya'll think of him at guard? Do you think he can develop into a starter this season?

I think you saw some improvements in his game at Center towards the end . . . I certainly wouldn't rule it out, especially as a backup active gameday interior lineman. That first game was a guy who never even snapped the ball or made calls.

Strength is not his problem, he just seemed slow off the snap and would get beat . . . excited for this young group of guards to hopefully take to some real coaching. He certainly has a shot to earn a job if he is up to the task.

Starting guards could easily be Douglas/Turner this year . . . with both being improved from a season ago.

Boone, Sweezy and company certainly have more experience and have played "better" in real NFL games . . . but the upside on both of these guards already on our roster is higher than most of what was in FA.

Yes, his legs and feet are heavy anough to anchor, he is athletic and can move in space, and has solid strength. I think he will be just fine.

Aside from snapping the ball I thought he was much more solid towards the end of the year when he played a position he didnt know

already have him penciled in at starter opposite turner. he's a tackle to guard convert so as a 4th round pick i expected some growing pains. hope 1 season is all he needed to iron out the kinks

He needs to start at LG, his natural position.

Unfortunately snapping is the most important aspect of being a center lol

he had never played the position in his life, not his fault our ****ty gm never considered the need to have a backup center

Not placing blame and I agree but again if he cannot snap the ball worth a damn as a center he is fairly useless.
I dont think he is a good future starter anywhere on line but I agree he should have never played center last year

We are already about to play another guy who has never played guard in his life on the line at guard so even with a new staff we have the same idiocy.
It might be different but we are talking about a guy at the end of his career doing it

There is going to be a competition at guard. Turner and Douglass will have to elevate their game to win the competition. I believe that Bushrod and Ulrick have good chances to be serviceable starting guards. The point is that whomever wins the competition will earn it.

Just like the last umpteen years ... like a record baby round round

I just hope Bushrod and Ulrick aren't washed up enough that they won't be the next colombo, clabo, etc as they'll most likely be asked to play meaningful snaps with the injury history of 3 out of the 5

There is no reason to expect anything different from this group as nothing has been significantly upgraded so I wouldn't be getting my hopes up if I were you. Even after a fierce competition between crappy players you still end up with a crappy player

Actually, I thought Jamil Douglas gave a heroic effort at center, which he was playing for the very first time in his life under terrible circumstances.

I would be very comfortable with him playing center going forward, assuming he actually gets some reps and experience under his belt.

I am looking forward to see what the coaching staff can do with Turner and Douglas. Miami has given up on young guards pretty early in the past and some have gone onto success with other teams like Evan Mathias. There is a point where you move on, but I do like the upside to both of these guys.
