I was just thinking about the trends of our FO. In Bill's second year at Dallas, there was a similar draft (05). Two quarterbacks being considered top end prospects(Rogers and Smith). Overall, it was a pretty weak draft and the talent was spread out over the top few rounds. I was thinking about who he drafted and the needs of the team. He passed on Rogers when he fell in their laps. I guess my point is that he has his plan and I feel he is going to stick to it. Here is a quote from the draft in 05 (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft05/columns/story?columnist=clayton_john&id=2044649)
"• Dallas Cowboys: Coach Bill Parcells was the clear big winner in the draft. He bulked up his front seven with the additions of linebackers Demarcus Ware and Kevin Burnett and defensive end Marcus Spears. Combine that with the free-agent signing of nose tackle Jason Ferguson, and the Cowboys have the flexibility to go to a 3-4 defensive scheme or stay in a hybrid 4-3. The key was getting Ware as the pass-rusher. The Cowboys were getting the word out they were taking Shawne Merriman, who ended up going a pick later to San Diego. But Ware is a Charles Haley-type talent who can be a pass-rusher from the four-man line and a pass-rushing linebacker in the 3-4. He was one of the most unique defensive talents in the draft. Spears is the ideal end for a 3-4 scheme -- a big, strong 300-pounder with some playmaking ability. Burnett is able to play inside or outside linebacker." As far as the Jets go in his tenure. We can not compare our situation to that one because of the issue there with the Jets giving up picks to New England for the hiring. Where do you think we are going this year in the draft? Offense or defense? I feel he is definitely going defense and is getting some pass rushers.

I'm just throwing this out there. Dont be surprised if we go defensive line early.

My thoughts exactly. Everyone keeps saying corner, but I don't think so with all of the signings and Bill's history.

Well since it hasnt been moved yet I guess i'll answer my opinion...Thats pretty cool when you have demarcus ware or Shawne merriman to choose from...Is bill that good that he knew Ware was gonna be better? In Bill we TRUST! LOL

well yeah you have a point but, u gotta remember at the time bill parcell had a young terrence newman and a veteran aaron glenn......now all he has is a old will toast allen and a whole lotta other veteran role players. theres no youth in the secondary which leads me to think uccon derris butler is our guy.

we already have a pro bowl joey porter, cam wake, matt roth...we can easily get another pass rusher in round 2, in which we have 2 of those.

Pass rush and cornerback play are interdependent. I think our first pick will most assuredly be a corner or a pass rusher.

I agree that we have a lot of role players, but how many of those or Bill's guys. I feel he will go front 7 definitely based on his previous drafts. WR and CB look like big needs on paper, but I think he will go with his bread and butter based on these facts.

Could a comparison of English to Ware be made? English has the moves and that unique ability to do both in 4-3 and 3-4 IMO.

I think any player that has a high motor fits that mold. The player needs to have a good work ethic and is flexible(as far as positions go). I know CB looks like a need but we could have signed somebody for that 4-5 mil a year. I don't think we are going cb with that pick. For starters, last year's 20 and 25 picks were defensive backs. They signed guaranteed money for 18 and 7 mil respectively. There total contracts were 5 year 14 mil and 9.7 mil. I don't think we are going to pay someone that much to possibly be a back up. The Green pickup was our target. In Bill's 3-4, the emphasis is always on the front 7 and we have not shored up those positions yet. Take your pick of who is left on the board. Round two sounds like an area that we shore up our secondary.
