I'd like to see the Dolphins try to accomplish three more personnel moves during the pre-season. I think we can be a great team without these, but the potential would really ratchet up if we pulled three of these off:

1) Sign Big Daddy - I put this first b/c it is the most likely successful move. He would be a solid pickup b/c of the age of Traylor. And, Traylor really can't play entire games anyways. Having both would allow them to go full speed and give a lot of needed depth to the DL.

2) Trade for backup RB - Ideally, Bennett from the Saints. He would be ideal. The best chance would be for Bush to get into camp and solidify his position. Bennett would become more expendable - especially at his salary level. If not Bennett, then perhaps another. I realize there is some love for Sammy Morris - but I just don't see him as adding any sort of threat to the lineup as a sub. He's a decent 3rd down guy but that's all I see him for. We may be able to get Bennett for a mid-late round pick or a player at another spot where we have depth.

3) Trade for WR - there are several unhappy WR's out there. The best, of course, is Jerry Porter - he would be a stunning addition to the WR spot with Culpepper's long ball abilities. Of course, Oakland is asking too much so this is very unlikely. The second option would be Ashley Lelie - also wanting to be traded. It is possible to get him for a 2nd round pick but perhaps we could go lower. Maybe we can go with a 3rd and throw in McKinney.

I'm hoping the other WR's on the roster develop, but the reality is the 3rd WR option is very questionable. This is not that good in a league where teams often need not just 3 but 4 solid WR's. And, one injury at a starting spot (especially Chambers) and we are in very bad trouble. I can see it becoming a WR corps much like Philadephia's the past few years (sans TO) - just horrific.

Ideally, the backups will develop enough we don't need to do this. But were we able to pull of 2 of these 3 or all 3 - we'd be at the top of the league in potential this year, imo.

I don't think the 3rd WR spot is questionable so much as it's unknown. To me, questionable means we have an idea of what kind of production we'll get from a player and it's not up to the kind of skill we're looking for, while unknown is just that, we don't really know what we have in a player. We know what Welker can do, and while not horrible, it's certainly not what we want. I think Campbell has shown flashes in the past and this might be the 2nd chance he's needed, while Hagen has a really good chance of proving to us that hey can step in and solidy that position.

I don't think you can go wrong with this move, but there have to be some concerns about the guy's conditioning. He doesn't want to sign with the Phins because he doesn't want to go through the rigors of training camp. He will have to play in the S. FL heat and if he doesn't get used to it now, he'll be in some serious trouble come September. He played games in Detroit, so he's far from being prepared to just step in and adjust to the humidity. If we don't sign him, I don't think it will be a big deal because I think Manny Wright will have a decent year and possibly claim the starting position from Truck.

I really don't like the idea of getting Bennett. Sure he's a homerun threat, but he's also injury-prone. I think we need to go through camp and see what we have in the guys here before we give up draft picks for other people's backups.

3) Trade for WR - there are several unhappy WR's out there. The best, of course, is Jerry Porter - he would be a stunning addition to the WR spot with Culpepper's long ball abilities. We already drafted Hagan and signed Campbell to compete with Welker for the number three spot. I think we'll be fine at that position without having to expend another draft choice. Campbell has chemistry with Culpepper and he's got the speed to run under Culpepper's 60 yard bombs. I think we're definitely set at WR. So IMO the third WR option is certainly not questionable.

am i the only person that thinks we dont need any more WRs besides tmny? no point bringing in a Porter or Lelie, i cant think of anyone with enough trade value as them to give away. your right, would deffinetly be bold, but a bad choice at that

if we bring in a porter or lelie, than they would be the 3rd reciever, i dont think they would want that, plus if either became our number 2, than booker would surely feel unwanted and push for a trade himself, i dont think most members in this forum want booker gone....

I don't feel any of those moves are needed. We have Vickerson, Figita and Evans ready to compete for a roster spot and solidify our line for a long time, and R. Wright will be there next year. Trading for a RB , I can go either way here. Morrris can handle the job and I would like to see what KJ and Riggs can do before I go shopping for another. And we are stacked at WR, and Culpepper made average guys shine at WR in Minny, granted they are young and un-proven but they all were once.

Would like to see Wilkerson signed, byond that a bug pickup at backup RB would be welcome but not devastating if it didn't happen. At WR IMO we have too much talent available to even consider looking for another WR.

Yes #2. I think Minor get cut if #2 happens. I dont think Morris would. #1.....hmmm....we would have to cut Vickerson or Zgonina. I would cut Zgonina but not Vickerson. He has a lot of upside. Carter was raving about him last year. Carter said that Vickerson was stronger than him, he just doesn't know it yet. Also the training camp thing. I mean people will say "well he'll play well during the regular season" but Wilkenson only has a year or 2 left. We usually only keep 9 d-line on the roster right?
Taylor, Carter, Bowens, Roth, Traylor, Holliday, M. Wright, Vickerson or Evans, and Wilkenson. So I guess yes to #2 IF we replace Zgonina with him and no one else. #3 no. Campbell, Hagan, and Welker can all be used in their own ways and all could serve as a good #3.

Spielman is that you?

Nah

Acquisitions fine, now is not the time to trade. Why load up the roster now? Something will pop up.

wilkerson would be the best of these moves in my opinion. bennet i think will cost too much, we have lots of talent at wr., porter is not the answer unless his attitude improves,,,,we could see all these issues solved with the guys we have in the coming weeks,,,thats what i am really hoping for

about Booker

maybe is me, but Booker is good but is expendable, Hagan by next year could replace him, that depent on Hagan comitment to the organization. You see , we have Mc Michael, so Booker is kind of the 3rt wr anyway. IMO GO DOLPHINS!! :dolphins:

Generally good comments.

However -

WR: Booker is a decent WR but slow. We need more than one big play guy. And the others are all serious Q-marks.

Anyone who thinks Hagan is going to be a productive #3 this year is betting they'll win the lottery. Even 1st round WR's generally don't produce well in their rookie season. He could, but it would be a big shock.

Campbell wasn't an easy signing for no reason. If he were a really solid #3 - he would have either remained in Minnesota or garnered either trade value or a good sized contract. Could he resurrect his career? Absolutely. Will he? Very questionable.

Welker? Solid return guy; decent #4; but not a #3 - at least he hasn't proven it. I like him a lot as a player - the kind of guy you love to have on your team. But, he has a lot to prove.

RB: If Brown goes down for a game or two or more (like last year) - I have little confidence in the backups we have now to pick up the slack. Like the QB position, you really need a very capable / starter quality backup at RB in the league these days. Again, is it possible that someone will emerge? Yes. But, it won't be Travis Minor and very likely not Sammy Morris (as a guy who will give you significant starting calibre production).
