Buccaneers | Rattay Acquired from San Francisco
Tue, 18 Oct 2005 14:02:39 -0700

Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have acquired QB Tim Rattay from the San Francisco 49ers for a conditional draft choice.

Very bad move by the 49ers IMO.

The Bucs stole this guy IMO. A conditional pick? HAHAHAHAHAHA

He's going to be our #3 QB and probably won't see a minute of playing time this year. That means the 49er likely get a 6 or 7 for him.

"The 49ers invested the first overall pick of the 2005 draft in Utah quarterback Alex Smith and immediately installed Smith at the top of the depth chart. However, Rattay won the job back in training camp and opened the 49ers’ games against St. Louis, Philadelphia, Dallas and Arizona. In the season opener, he led the 49ers to an upset of the Rams by completing 11 of 16 passes for 165 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions, compiling a near-perfect passer rating of 141.9.

In all, Rattay has appeared in 32 NFL games with 16 starts. His career statistics include 356 completions in 586 attempts for 3,941 yards, 24 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. He has an excellent career completion percentage of 60.8% and a career passer rating of 81.6."

Yep. You guys just flat out stoled Rattay from the 49ers. In my mind, i think that Rattay will be your 2nd string QB because Luke is a poorly QB.

eh, it's not really a "steal" because the niners were going to get rid of him anyway. now the bucs are stuck with 2 average lousiana tech QBs, which is enough to make them happy i guess

wow, I guess that's one way to eliminate a QB controversy, just eliminate one of the QB's

When you have a killer D and two top notch RBs you don't need as superstud QB. You, of all people, should know that. ;)

nah, not really. we haven't won anything with an average QB. brad johnson got the job done though

Food for thought

Gus Frerotte: 100 comp/ 188 att/ 7 TDS/ 6 INTs/ 54.5 PCT/ 75.6 RAT (5 games)
Tim Rattay: 56 comp/ 97 att/ 5 TDs/ 6INTs/ 57.7 PCT/ 70.3 RAT (4 games)

Rattay has 2 fewer TDs that Gus on half the attempts.

This means the Fins starter would be good enough to be the Bucs 3rd stringer. :D

This is a great Bucs pickup because If Simms goes down, which is a possibility because of his small frame, this gives you guys a good insurance policy. I think Rattay is the kind of QB who could flourish in TB given a chance, but I think simms is gonna do pretty well, I saw him in the preseason and he was amazing.

Also has the same amount of INT's in half the attempts. So basically double the INT's.

Rattay is a solid QB. Who has he had to throw to in his career. His running game was okay but not great. Yet another young QB who was given not enough of a chance.

He is also going to be good in that West Coast system. If people think Brian Griese looks good in that Rattay should look like a stud.

Good move by Tampa, Rattay is a solid backup and competant spot starter. I think Simms will take the job and keep it. Gruden likes to have 85 Qbs on his roster at all times so you knew he was doing something.

Yeah Dorsey is the backup to Smith now?

Yes, but Cody Pickett has more talent than both Smith & Dorsey. I'd like to see the U dub star get to show his stuff. He's a pocket passer that has the best arm & is the fastest of the three.
