I would like to start by saying that I am a huge Saban fan. I think he is and will continue to be a strong Coach. However, I am surprised by the lack of change or competition for the Kicker position. Mare is now an average kicker, being paid far more than he is worth.

Bill Parcells in Dallas made the change mid-season and released Vanderjagt. I for one wouldn't mind having him come in for an evaluation and at the very least put Mare on notice for improved performance or a big salary cut next year.

I would keep Mare over Vanderjacht for the rest of the year...then draft Mason Crosby, 3rd round, maybe even the 2nd.

CROSBY FOR THE WIN.

the thing about the Jets i like, they drafted teh basic positions the past couple years that many ppl OVERLOOK.

KICKER, CENTER, and LT (not entirely overlooked but get the drift). they are set at 3 main positions for a decade.

u think vander will come cheap?....hes done let him go atleast mare can do KO's too.

Crosby is awesome, but I would not spend a first day pick on any kicker. My opinion is that look at the Jets (Nugent) and Raiders (Janafatboy) both were 1st day picks and they are nothing to brag about. Wake Forest has a kid (can't think of his name right now) that might be worth a shot.

Signing Vanderjagt would do what? He's even more inaccurate and he has no leg for touchbacks.

Mare is our guy for now. We'll see what they do at seasons end.

I can't believe I'am going to defend a kicker:confused: , but kicking a soccer ball is not even close to kicking a football. I can't kick a football to save my life, but I was a heck of a good soccer player in my prime.

could that have anything to do with your 40? lol i can hit a 35 yarder and i play soccer...i haven't tried anything farther but the kicker for my high school was a soccer player all his life until freshmen year of high school and he's made a 45 yarder in a game and he's only a sophmore....so if my high school can take a soccer player and turn him into a pretty good kicker in two years without any professional training i'm sure it's very possible to take someone with an even stronger leg and teach him how to kick a football with professional training.

how do you think the gramaticas and mare got into football? they all played soccer there entire lives until NFL came into it. haha

Former Dolphins and Chiefs kicker Pete Stoy****** also played college soccer. I'am not saying that it can't be done, but not everybody can do it. A lot of people think it's a easy thing to do. It's pretty common in high school to us a soccer player for their kicker.

I also mentioned that it was in my prime.......LOL
Now days I can't even run a block without getting winded.

a guy that isnt getting a lot of press as a college kicker is Nick Folk from Arizona (yes yes, there goes my U of A bias again), but the guy has a really nice leg, he's handled kicks and punts for the Wildcats this year and has done a fine job at both positions. as far as touchbacks go, i think he has about a 63% touchback rate and he's got a FG long this season of 52, was named first team all pac-10. he might be worth a 6th or 7th rder or maybe as an undrafted FA.

Mare is 80% from within 50 yards so thats not bad at all.

But Id really love Crosby...even with a second rounder

i saw the same thing happen at my high school, a soccer player was converted to a kicker, and this kid could nail the ball from 50+, i saw him kick a 65 yarder in practice, he'd have gotten a scholarship but lets just say he took the Ricky Williams path and decided he prefered a certain something to football.
