When Paul Soliai was hit with a one-game suspension on two different occasions during the 2008 season, many believed he was greasing the skids for his departure.
But the Dolphins, who usually have little patience when it comes to such transgressions, opted to overlook his mistakes and brought him back for another season.
It’s time for Soliai to repay that leap of faith, which is where we begin today’s talking points:

If he doesn't it is going to make next years draft much more complicated.

It would be so nice if he just dominated from now until the end of the year.

It's not like he's trying to suck, he's just not as talented as some other guys. It is what it is.

Before it was that the coaches saw very little effort and work ethic. He may have done OK in practices but he would show up to training camp overweight because he didn't maintain discipline during the offseason and he ate what he wanted and didn't work out.

I think he could be the answer long term at NT if he can stay healthy. He seems to want it more and it seems like he has become more mature with the presence of Ferguson. This season he has played with a tremendous effort and he has done all in his power to put himself back in the good graces of the coaches and this team.

He's got to show a lot in these last six games to derail plans of taking a NT high in the draft.

Sticking with Soliai is a risk, is it not? If he's a "serviceable" NT, do you really pass up on getting a young stud in the first round (assuming one is available when we pick)? The NT, though unglamorous, is one of the most critical positions in the 3-4, and we need a large dominating presence there.

Now I guess you can argue that if Soliai does well and seems committed enough, then we can take a NT later in the draft (another "serviceable" guy and have a nice rotation going). And maybe you can argue that given the talent and depth of our D-line, we don't really need a dominating NT to stop the run...just one to take up some space.

I don't know - I'm really hoping Soliai comes through but I don't know what we need to see from him to feel like NT won't be a major need early in the draft.

The problem with this draft is the lack of quality 3-4 NT's.

He's a Utah guy AND a Dolphin, so I'm pulling for him fo sho. I just don't think he's all that talented....

Hope he proves me wrong.

That's where you are wrong. He is very talented. His problems have always been immaturity, taking plays off and poor work ethic.
He is very athletic for a guy his size. When his head is in the game he is almost unblockable.

then it's time for him to get his head in the game and keep it there, because we REALLY need for him to step up and play his A game for the rest of the season...

Actually, quite the opposite. Last draft had a lack of quality NT's. This draft has quite a few to keep an eye on. As long as we don't reach for Terrence Cody in the 1st, I'll be happy. There will be quite a few good prospects throughout the draft.

He's been quite solid so far this year. Hopefully he keeps it up.

:err:

Terrence Cody
Dan Williams
Boo Robinson
DeMarcus Granger
Phil Taylor
Al Woods
Torrell Troup
Cam Thomas
Jay Ross
Charles Alexander
maybe even Linval Joseph

that's 11 prospects. not all of them will pan out, but that's a nice group to choose from.

Soliai played hurt for almost the entire NE game. He is a really good NT. I don't think we need to draft one early at all, especially since the Tuna never drafts them early. He takes late rounders and develops them over time.

Could we possibly turn Gerald McCoy into an NT? He's a player I really like in the middle...

I'm not sure about Cody. I used to like him, but in the games I have seen this year he seems to tire easily...lot of weight to carry around. I guess with a good conditioning program he could get better though.
