Virginia's Chris Long ran an unofficial 4.71 forty time at the NFL Scouting Combine. He had a 34 inch vertical leap.

At 272 pounds, that's a fantastic time. NFL Network said any time in the 4.8's would have been solid. The more time passes, the more Long has become the favorite to go first overall to the Dolphins.

Chris Long is defitnetly looking the first overall pick, the guy also has motor like I have never seen. Hopefully we snag this guy and if it is Picks you guys want we cant trade Taylor since we already have his replacement.

I love Chris Long, I made a point of watching several of his games this year to scout him, he is a football player with that motor you spoke of. You won't have to worry about this guy failing a drug test or getting into trouble.I think the pick is probably down to him and Gholston at this point, with an out side shot of Matt Ryan or Jake long. Jake is hurt by the depth of Left tackles in this draft.

again,if we're unable to trade down, and we pick defense first,i say we take him

hmm.. i think chris long is a great player with a great motor but i still hope that we draft glenn dorsey because he is also a great player and can play through pain..

I still have my doubts about selecting a 3-4 DE and making him a linebacker when you have linebackers that are better at that position already in the draft.

All the intangibles aside, Long will still be asked to play a position he played very sparingly in college. He is very raw at both 4-3 defensive end and 3-4 outside linebacker.

That concerns me a little and I probably am not alone on this. That said, if what they say about Dorsey is true, I am not sure Miami has a ton of great options, especially when one considers Gholston's lack of an ideal motor.

J. Long in the 1st and someone like C. Cambell from the U in the 2nd, if possible. There are a few DE/OLB type guys we could probably snag in the 2nd. I think that would be better for us now and in the future..IMO

All this "High Motor" talk is really starting to bother me. Look at measurables, look at on field stats. I everybody and their mother on this board is in love with Baby Matt Roth, but Vernon Gholston is a stronger, faster, more athletic player, thats the bottom line. His college numbers are similar to Longs and he also dominated Jake Long last year. What do you Chris Long lovers see in him that makes him worth the number 1 pick in the draft? Would you select Jared Allen, Justin Smith, or Patrick Kearney with the 1st pick? Hes not better than any of those three.

Gholston is not more athletic. He does not change direction well and does not show real good body control. Running faster in the straight line and benching more does not make a guy a better athlete.

His college numbers were similar and Long was asked to play out of position as a 3-4 defensive end. He would have significantly less chances to attack the quarterback from that position than Gholston would.

Dominated J. Long? I don't think so. You don't spend top money on a converted DE...to play OLB...when he didn't play that position before...it's far too risky and costly if you make a mistake.

The comparisons to Matt Roth couldn't be more off and I really have to wonder if those that are suggesting that have ever seen him play. Gholston is good athlete, but he is not a better football player than Long. He did not "dominate" J. Long unless you consider 1 sack dominate. Strength between the two is debatable. Long has a clear advantage in instincts , technique, and leadership. Long is also performing pretty well in all the LB drills today. He is the real deal.

Yes...but is he a OLB...at 272. I don't think so...I believe he's a 4-3 defensive end. And he said he's doing the linebacker drills at his pro-day.

His own college coach Al Groh has said numerous times that his ideal position in the NFL would be 3-4 OLB. His cone drill was very impressive today and he has great body control in space. I think he'll be just fine.
