I agree Henne can be a franchise QB, but he needs to win the job the right way. If pennington remains healthy again this year, the phins need to keep him because all the guy does is win games. He is young enough to play two or three more years at a high level, Chad Henne needs to beat him out and that could start next year

I totally Agree with you. Henne has not showed me anything this preseason. He is to much of a gunslinger and does not make the smart moves. I hope this organization does not fail to re-sign Penny if he has another season like last years.

agreed, theres no reason to blame pennington for "holding our offense back" like some on this board seem to think he does because "he cant throw deep". accuracy is the most important thing not how far you can throw. he is very smart and is playing very well. the only thing holding this offense back last year was the offensive line with its lack of run blocking

How many Qbs can acctually throw a Bal 60 plus yards. Pennington throwa the long ball just fine when he needs to. It is all just one big myth.

What's holding this team back isn't a strong belief in Chad Henne- in fact that may all be just a ploy with the press. What is holding it back is the fact that Pennington has had some legitimate problems in his career staying on the field and maintaining consistency.

Now more than ever I have very little doubt that if Pennington comes out and shows he is capable of playing like he did last year, there will be mutual interest in a contract extension. Until then, it's probably a smart move to respect Pennington's history and hold off. But Pennington is the type of guy and the type of player that I think this organization wants to establish itself on- a hard worker and leader who takes care of the football and makes smart decisions.

Even with his injury history its worth resigning him. I think you re-sign him and let him and Henne battle in camp every year and let the best man win. Even if Penny starts and gets injured he can still be there to be a "coach" so to speak. Win-win situation.

No. The show must go on with Penny. We are a young team and need to establish our QB of the future, whether it's Henne, White, a draftee, or some other young QB we trade for....as good as Penny is, we cannot continue to hang on to him for much longer.

If Henne doesnt look like he will be ready for the 2010 season, we should just franchise pennington. although, if henne isnt ready for the 2010 season, i dont know when he would be ready. how long do you have to sit on the bench?

Have to disagree. We'd have finished better than 11-6 if "all he does is win games". Personally the sooner we can put a QB in who can make all the throws quickly, the better off we'll be. But having said that, I'll go with whatever Tony decides.

Dude, we had won 1 game the year before! And we had a team with a lot of gaping holes last year and the only guy who could have coaxed a division title out of these guys last year is Pennington.

just like their were beck fan boys there are henne fan boys.. personally, i never even liked him in college much less now...Im very high on pennington..and higher on pat white than henne...the things henne does jus kills the momentum...he can get the ball there but not in the wrong place. sometimes i see him try to run out the pocket before the play even develops with no rush on him...throws picks to d-linemen...if he is the future he should be showing it by now..when we had beck people were chanting to start him...how is he gonna be the future if he doesnt gain any experience..well we tried that and beck was just too soft...henne..jus seems to make too many mental mistakes.

With Pennington's history of injury and mediocre play its safer to wait and see what happens this season. Even if he puts together another solid season there won't be a great deal of demand out there for a player his age with the skillset he possesses. Kurt Warner had a phenomenal year leading his team to the superbowl and could only garner interest from the 49ers.

100% agree but what will be the time to put henne as our starter if we never put in a real full game how are we ever going to know? Only way henne will have a Whole game to himself is if Penny is injured.

the good thing is i dont think we really need to worry about this until after the season. penny is not that type thats gonna cause fuss over his contract. if all goes well im sure we will resign him and i also believe it will be at a fair price. you dont just hand the job over to someone because they are the "future". the day someone comes in and clearly wins the job from penny i will be happy and things will be great. you dont just drop a good qb because you got someone you think is the future that hasnt proved anything. talk about destruction.

There is time for that later.

Why is everyone down on Henne? Yea he played like garbage but in a game in bad conditions and after a long delay. I think its the first "bad" performance I recall seeing from him in preseason or regular.
