Ok,

Enough about the Falcons and what went wrong etc. etc. etc. Time to move on and talk about the Colts and what the Fins need to do to get a win.

This is my take:

If you have ever watched Manning have a bad day it is usually when he has defenders in his face all day and is flushed from the pocket often. If Manning is allowed to sit in the pocket he will eat any defense alive. So the 2 keys I see that the Dolphins need to do is:
1. Keep the Colts off the field with long time eating drives that feature alot of Runs / play action and high precentage throws. The Colts Defense is somewhat a fast defense and very physical. Long drives will tire them out by the 4th qt.
2. Fins Defense needs to pressure , Pressure, Manning all day long. If we do as well on the run D as we did last week then Manning must beat us through the air. Flush him out of the pocket and he's 50% less accurate than in the pocket. If he's allowed to stay in the pocket and has a comfort level there it will not be a good day.

Whats your take?????:ponder:

Hopefully we will be able to run the ball with Bob Sanders out. We need to grind out some long drives and keep that offense off the field.

I always find it funny when fans say "focus on this or that"....as if fans' focus is really going to change anything. Fortunately I'm sure our players are already focused on the Colts and that's all that matters.

Anyways, I think you outlined the keys to the game. Luckily, the Colts' have no real running game, so in that sense they present more of a one-dimensional challenge for our D. On the other side of the ball, their pass rush is pretty good so we will have to get the run game going to open up the play action. Sanders being out is definitely helpful - the last thing Pennington needs is a ball-hawking safety back there...

The "Focus" was directed to this board, Fins have been focused on the Colts since Sunday night........:pop:

I think we win if Long can keep Freeney away from Pennington.. I literally think its that simple... The Colts D is overrated without Bob Sanders. We SHOULD, with the emphasis on should, be able to run up the gut against the Colts. They have a fast defense so running sideline to sideline wont work this week. Running up the gut with dives should work. Honestly, if theres no running lanes in this game, something is going to need to change because if theres any game to run on a team, its this game!!

Philip Merling and the boys have to get some penetration......and flush him out or sack him. I think we can do it.....I still have faith in our team.
Go Phins!!

i have the utmost faith in the defense. we'll be in manning's face all day. i think the game will live and die on our o-line and the turnover battle. no way fasano duplicates that performance. the line - i am legitimately worried.

oh - and RUN THE DAMN BALL.

The Dolphins will beat the Colts. Nothing is ever a sure bet, but if I had to bet on the outcome of this game, I would bet on the Dolphins.

I would have bet on the Falcons last week...even at -4.5 or so. The Falcons are just a really good team. The Colts are not. If the Miami defense does about the same job against the Colts offense as they did the Falcons offense, Miami should win this game.

1. Their OL doesn't scare me like the Falcons' did.
2. Their RBs don't scare me like the Falcons' did.
3. Peyton Manning isn't that much better than Matt Ryan, under the same duress.
4. Reggie Wayne and Roddy White are also about interchangeable.
5. At home is a lot better venue than on the road.
6. Jake Long has more trouble with a John Abraham type than pure speed types, IMO.
7. I wouldn't expect pass protection issues to manifest the same way consecutively, anyway.
8. The Colts' defense is not the same without Bob Sanders or Tony Dungy.
9. They just barely escaped with a win against a team I do not have much respect for.
10. We should be able to run the ball at least as well as the Jaguars did.
Bonus: Sean Smith + Austin Collie + MNF + First Home Game = Interception.

I've BEEN focusing on the Colts game ever since the clock hit 0:00 in ATL

Mmmm before that, I would say around 6 min to go in the game. I am pretty sure you knew Pennington and that offense weren't going to score 3 TD's in a span of 6 min. ;)

Good post. I would also like to add that Miami seemed to be in pre-season mode against the Atlanta. That should change against the Colts.

Some good news: Peyton Manning is 4-7 against the Dolphins with 16 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. His 76.3 passer rating against them is his lowest against any of the eight teams he's faced more than six times.

Actually I missed MIA's TD in that game after I switched to the IND/JAX game right after Elam made that 50 yd fg.

Thanks for that stat, Manning hasn't had much success against us over a decade.

The offense was a little bit.

They had issues. I expect that most of them can and will be corrected by Monday.

The next week though...traveling to the left coast on a short week...that'll be tough. From what I saw against Oakland, San Diego is a team that Miami should beat under normal circumstances. But, traveling cross-country on a short week is not a normal circumstance.

Miami may have to accept a 1-2 start to the season. But, the good news is it should be their toughest stretch.
