Time to let the offense run this team...

I don’t think my thoughts require a new thread I can hijack a bit of this one -

We kno MM had already made some noise about Offence when the Bills adjust their Offence around avoiding Tua and let that sink in

The Bills we’re aiming to play keep away and run themselves out of time we didn’t escape with a win

The Bills limited Tua’s touches because they saw what happened in Balt

I want to see Edmonds/Mostert and Mike G more involved in the passing game, especially Edmonds, RB dump off should be a extension of our run game. Edmonds should be used like the way Singletary was used this past week against us.

man i love the positivity about the offense. But I disagree with this. This defense is ready for a championship run. They bend, but they don’t break and they’re opportunistic. If it weren’t for that fumble recovery to give us a chance to score against the bills, who knows where that game woulda gone considering we got 39 plays on offense. The D held up all all game and made the key plays when it counted - no way we win that game on offense yesterday. This defense can slow down any team in the league
Sorry but the defense has to be able to get off the field and so far they have struggled in that department this season. They give up way too many 3rd and longs just like last year.

This was a great win... No other way around it but I think it shouldnt have been this close to begin with. I've read alot of comments in game and after the game about how the Fins D shouldnt have blitzed as much as they did and... I completely disagree. In Fact, they didnt blitz enough IMO.

The Fins offense right now after 3 games is pretty much top 5 everywhere it matters except for points scored.

  • YPA: 2nd
  • TD%: 2nd
  • QB rating: 2nd
  • Passing TDs 4th
  • Rushing TDs: 14th
  • Overall point scoring: 6th
  • Number of offense plays: 26th

So the Fins offense is obviously rolling right now, but they're stuck, they aint on the field enough. Now as a Fins fan, we're used to 3 and outs being the problem here but it isnt this time around. The Fins are:

  • #1 in average time per drive
  • #6 in average plays per drive
  • #1 in average points per drive

So what does the defense and their blitzing have to do with this? Well here's the defense per drive breakdown.

  • 18th in average time per drive
  • 16th in average time per drive
  • 20th in average point per drive

Long story short... the Fins defense isnt all that good at preventing the other team from scoring on any given drive right now, they're just good at making them last a long time. Sure you're limiting the total number of points they can score in any given game, but you're also limiting the number of opportunities your own offense gets to score on their end. This just contracts the point differential and makes it more likely that you'll rely on a top 5 QB missing a gimme at the goal line for a win.

About the blitzing part.

Its easy to be results oriented after the fact. But blitzing worked, it got 2 sack fumbles(one recovered by the Fins) and multiple shots at Interceptions(that were missed). Im just going to pull a number out of my ass and say the Fins capitalized on 1 out of 5 opportunity for TOs. Blitzing more will accomplish 2 things, it'll lower the amount of time the defense is on the field and increase the TO opportunities. Sure this will also increase variance and will put more points on the board for the opponent as well. But it will also put your best unit on the field much more often.

In much simpler words... Its time for the D to **** or get off the pot.
You do make some valid points. The Dolphins were able to come back against the Ravens because their defense gave up a lot of big plays to the Ravens offense which led them to have more time in 4th quarter to make that great comeback. They won the time of possession battle 34:47 to 25:13 in that game. That's how they were able to pull it out in the end.

Ya know how last year our defense looked amazing in part because we played a bunch of scrub QBs? Well we played perhaps the two best QBs in the league the past two weeks; certainly the two who create the most out of nothing. So the reverse happened. Once we face a more varied selection of QBs, the defense will start to look more like what we know.

That being said, we're gonna be facing these guys in the playoffs, so they gotta be better overall. But they'll get better as the year goes on

We just played 3 very good teams with very good coaches and won all three. We are just getting started, we are all still getting used to each other. Yes our defense has mostly stayed the same, but Ingram will open things up for Phillips and Og. I think they will have break-out games against the Bengals if they are not too gased. On Thursday the offense needs to carry the team It is not next man up with the phins it is next star up. Which superstar is stepping up is it Hill.Waddle,Geiski, Davis ,Wilkins, Tua,Howard ,Jones, Phillips or Holland Maybe it is Morstead or Carpenter. Who is going to change the game?

Miami defense was super lucky Josh Allen missed on that 4th down pass. Normally he would complete that easily. Nick Needham was so far away it was atrocious. Yet he celebrated like he made an amazing play. Unbelievable.

I'm so tired of taking credit away from defensive players because the Bills were tired. Guess what tired them? Playing our guys who were better conditioned. Did Needham give up some catches? He did, but guess what, he didn't let those short throws become long touchdowns. He made his tackles or slowed his guy long enough until someone else did. Swear to god, if some of the people on this board were in our locker room we'd be the same ole Dolphins, Hill, Tua, McDaniel and all. Y'all that negative and blame-wielding you'd put everybody off.

On blitzing and 'getting off the field'...

We just faced two of the best, toughest running QBs in the league. If you are the Edge and you go after these QBs with your hair on fire, you risk surrendering some huge runs.

That's over for awhile...

I think you'll see our guys getting home more starting this week... and more sacks and more QB hits will get us off the field.
Then, the following week, Jones comes back and cover zero becomes even more of an option.

Wait and see.

The blueprint to attack Miami has been capitalizing on the Phins second level and LB mismatches within 10-yards of LOS. Buffalo, Baltimore, and NE all found success in this space. Cincinnati will likely scheme Hayden Hurst, Tyler Boyd, and Joe Mixon to test for weak coverage. Agree we need to continue to bring pressure, especially against Burrow and this line, since he holds on to the ball a little too long and is vulnerable to pressure off the edges.

Great information.

I'm looking for some visible improvement in the defense when Byron Jones comes back. A lot of people don't realize how important he is to their schemes.

I think that the D is playing the way it was designed to, aggressively attack the O and force 3 and out's or turnovers to get the ball back to our O. Our O had trouble converting 3rd downs. We have to play complementary football to be sucessful. We have kind of 'gotten away' with some sloppy football to this point. A win is a win though, and if anybody had told me at this point we'd be 3-0 I wouldn't have believed it.
