I am pretty sick of everyone from other teams fans or sportswriter / sportscasters saying how Miami is performing well because of our gimmick Wildcat formation. I just read it again on the power ranking thread and it simply pisses me off. First I want them all to know that a gimmick is something that is done from time to time when no one is expecting it. A gimmick is like a trick play. Last time I checked we line up in that formation at least 10 times a game. So what if its a half back pass or a flea flicker or misdirection or RB option, the only difference is that a RB lines up as QB. Like I said its only a gimmick if its not expected so we do it every week 10 times a game or more so I am sure the element of surprise is gone. The Wildcat is part of our offense its something other team prepare for because we execute it well. Maybe if someone defends it well we can call it a gimmick defense.

Go Phins!

not sure why you are offended that they are calling it a gimmick play

An offensive football play that involves trickery and deception, intended to give the offensive team an advantage by confusing the defense

yes hiking the ball to the HB is a gimmick play, as is a flea flicker and so on.

IT's only been sneaking up on teams since the 1960s. It's a gimmick I guess, but, it's not like teams haven't had time to prepare.

it's a formation.... gimmick plays are flea flickers, statue of lib, double reverse etc... if you run a flea flicker out of an I set the play is a gimmick, the formation is not

hiking the ball to the HB is not a gimmick, again its a formation the plays that come out of the formations can be looked at as gimmicks

We can back and forth all you want but whether something is a gimmick or not is an opinion and most think this is a gimmick whether they are right or wrong. when you line up your qb wide and snap to your runningback i see it as a gimmick.

Like I said if you run this formation every week and the other team must game plan for it, it is part of your offense and no longer a gimmick. Your right we can all back and forth and it is an opinion but facts are facts they run it every week. Is the slant and go a gimmick just because its run once or twice a game, how about the counter play or the cut back or is it part of an offensive game plan? As far as formations and deception to create an advantage, I think every offensive play is designed that way, if its not you need a new OC. They just call it a gimmick because they dont want to give the players credit for executing their gameplay since we were 1-15 last year they cant believe that talent can be coached.

Its not a normal formation. If our offense tried to run it more than 10 times a game, it would fail miserably.

Can you at least admit that it is some form of trickery? We run it sparingly in an attempt to catch the defense runnign around with there heads all confused. We do it because it makes the defense have to think outside the lines of basic football.

We really won't know whether or not the wildcat is a gimmick until next year. If we still run it next year, then i'll believe its part of our offense. If we don't, it was a gimmick we used to give our young and overall talent-lacking offense an edge against its opponent.

lets face it, if we could line up in an I-formation and beat teams, we would. But we can't, so we run the wildcat.

This is where we disagree. The only things i can say are "gimmicky" are fake field goals and fake punts. And only certain types of on-side kickoffs, the ones that are disguised as regular but they are intentionally onsided. One of my favorite aspects of having Mare back when we did....

Everything else....Play Action fake, Flea Flicker, Reverse, Double Reverse, HB Option.....Nothing tricky about it. All it does is keep defenses from getting tricky and overpursuing. And if they wanna complain about it, tell them to proceed with caution :-)

They call it a gimmick because thats what they see it as. If this was our primary formation all game then maybe I would buy what you are saying. I will say again any offensive play that has a player other than the qb receiving the hike is a trick, gadget or gimmick play. i dont see how you can argue that.

Well we disagree which is not the end of the world. I and alot of people call it a gadget, gimmick or whatever, its all about one's opinion of the definition. I do not see a play action as a gimmick play but it does have some aspects there of.

I mean i can understand the notion that they are "creative" plays, just not tricks.

Is QB Sneak a trick play? FB dive? HB Toss? What about QB draw or handoff to running backs out of shotguns? Screens? WR Double Reverse? The list goes on and on and on.....

The idea behind football plays is not to tell your defense what your going to do before you do it. You want to keep them guessing. And this is the ticket.

I just dont understand what these people are talking about when they say "trick play." I really dont.

It is as much of a gimmick as play action is. Who really cares what they call it. It is an eefective complexity to our offense that has been giving opposing defenses fits to stop. Thats all that really matters. They dont have to respect it or our record but if we take the Lombardi they better well respect that.

That has alot to do with our Sucess but wasnt it shut down against the Bills and we beat them
