I direct you to this post
Not from me, but insightful.
Nick Saban has made his bed and now its time for him to lay in it. An ESPN.com poll comes out each week ranking every coach in the league and where they stand. Take a guess who came in next to last? That's right, Nick Saban. And I can't say I disagree with that assessment.
The bloom is off the rose with Saban just 23 games into his NFL head coaching career. While I am not one to say I told you so, I will this time and say I told you so! The Miami Dolphins are quickly turning into the NFL's version of the NY Knicks. And playing the role of Isiah Thomas is none other than Nick Saban.
Let's break down some of the moves (blunders) that Saban has made since taking over the Dolphins on Christmas day 2004.
In my opinion the first big mistake Nick Saban has made is selling his soul and bringing in or keeping every degenerate this league has to offer. Now, the NFL is a tough guy sport played by individuals that are not very nice. I accept that and I even accept that maybe on a 53 man roster you might have one or two athletes that have found themselves in some off the field problems on an occasion. But the laundry list of players with off the field problems that Nick Saban relies on and depends on is a joke.
The biggest one is Ricky Williams. After what he did to the Dolphins in July 2004, this organization should have cut all ties with him. Period, end of story. I don't care how good of a player he is or how much money he robbed from this team. The organization isn't broke and doesn't need the money and for as great as he is you can't depend on him......EVER!
Nick kept Ricky and the traveling circus that is always around him. And after he was suspended again, this time for a full season, Nick still publicly defends him and keeps him a part of this franchise instead of just ridding this organization and city of this clown. Then, we keep around (and give a raise too)
Randy McMichael, a man who beat his wife not just once in one offseason. Oh no, he did it a full year later one more time. Then we get to Marcus Vick, oh how can we forget Marcus. A guy who once flipped off the fans in college. A man who once stomped on a defenseless opponent in a bowl game. A man who was found guilty of having sex with a minor. Should I go on with his laundry list, or do we get the point? Keith Traylor was arrested this past May and still could face a suspension from the league for two misdemeanors. And we can't forget about Mr "LOVE BOAT" himself, Daunte Culpepper.
While the Fins aren't exactly on the level of the Cincinnati Bengals when it comes to filling up a roster with scumbags, they aren't far behind. While I understand Nick in a job where winning is everything. It doesn't mean you have to just sell your soul to bring in every low life possible to help you win.
Not only are the Miami Dolphins a bad team, they are also an unlikable team. A team that is tough to root for. Forget good player or bad player. These are bad people and bad human beings! These are bad people you can't depend on in life let alone on a football field. Yet, Nick just keeps bringing them in.
The bottom line is when you take over an NFL team the way Saban did, with all of the power and all of the control, then all of the blame will lay at your feet with things go bad. And right now it's as bad as it's ever been for this franchise. In fact, it's never been worse. At least in 2004 Wannstedt had the excuse that his superstar player left him the night before training camp. Saban doesn't have that excuse. Saban has an All-Star coaching staff which he hand picked. Saban has the quarterback he wanted and he traded for. Saban has all of his draft picks from the past two years as well as all of the free agents he wanted as well.
Nick Saban has built this team in his image and from my perspective the image is a disaster. With all of that said though, Nick has three more years on his contract and he will get them all. If there is one thing this current owner has showed us is that he doesn't want to fire anyone no matter what. So, Nick will be here for the next 3 seasons after this year. Nick will have another Top 5 or Top 3 draft pick and will be able to hand-pick almost any college player he wants to bring in.
Much like the NY Knicks turning to Isiah Thomas and saying you created this mess, now you fix it, forcing him to coach the team. It's time for Dolphins (fans and front office) to wake up and smell the coffee and stop pretending Nick has us going in the right direction.
Nick Saban has built this disaster that we call a football team in South Florida. Now, he's gotta make it work! It's high time he do something to show the fans and organization that we should continue to have some faith in him. Fire somebody, cut a player, call out a player in the media. Do something other than continue to make the same mistakes you have made for the past 22 months.
I'm not calling for Nick Saban's job, not yet at least. I want to see how he carries himself the rest of this year and what he does this offseason. I will say this thoug:, the way he has and does treat the media in Miami, that if things don't turn around soon, I could see the heat being turned up on him so high that it will be at a level that will either force Nick to snap or have the font office questioning his hiring and trying to get some of the power and control out of Saban's hands over the course of the next three years.
You made this mess Nick and if this ship continues to sink you have only yourself to blame.
