To all of you that had high expectations coming into the season, you were not in the right so to speak for having them. A completely new staff, an overhauled roster and tons of free agents brought in to play the evolutionary survival of the fittest game. Where in that recipe does it say immediate dividends? We had one of the worst recorded seasons in NFL history and we just bounce back and go .500 or better? NO. We have an O-lineman paid way to much to open the draft for what he is capable of (no one will argue this if they have a sane mind, right or wrong pick, top pay for any position as a rookie is more than they are capable of). We picked a QB that slipped (right or wrong, based on draft projections, he slipped) and ultimately drafted for the offensive and defensive line.
The offensive and defensive lines aren't ultimately the ones that score. It would be the skills positions that score, but they can't unless they have the trenches. What would Sanders have been with an O-line? I expected nothing from us this year and take every win as a gift at the moment. We picked up no effective skills players this year. The ones we did will be role players for the future. We did however spend this offseason giving the skills players a chance and the future skills players an unfair advantage. Going in the this season I already saw our future, losing this year, about .500 next year, sneaking into the playoffs the following, and contender after that. That is called the real world, anything better than that and I will get very excited.
I am a dolphins fan through and through for 20+ years, but I am also a realist. I support this team through and through and knowing they filled our core in the draft and our skills positions with free agents that will be close to expiring contracts when we are ready to make a run and sign serious skills players, I am very excited. Our win loss record this year means nothing to me as long as I continue to see this philosophy in our camp because I will without a doubt know I will be rooting for the right team a few years from now as long as the current philosophy is held in place.
