you know they aren't going to start, right? Gus will. I'd rather get a young QB in FA, and draft one in the later rounds. 3-4 something like that.

Get Josh McCown, draft a QB later.

I guess were going to have this debate until the draft is over. I disagree. If Cutler is there we should take him. But I do think we need to draft a QB in this draft regardless.

You don't pass on a potential franchise QB simply because they won't start the first year.

true, but we won't be able to get Cutler. Saban won't mortgage the farm to get him.

Sounds more like the status quo attitude since the marino days..

If Cutler can be had by trading up to around 8-15, I still think Saban would attempt to trade up IF he believes that Cutler is what this franchise needs.

Saban knows that you need stability at the QB position to win year after year.

I dont see us trying to trade up for Cutler. If we are going to trade up we might as well go after the big dog either Leinart or Young. Personally I dont think you can argue with the success that Leinart has had. Young played a great final game but that doesn't in my book put him over Leinart.

Saban may see more in Cutler than either of those guys though so you never know.

we must get our franchise QB now, we can't afford to take another chance on a young FA. McCown could be another failed project like Feeley or Greise. A franchise QB would put us in the playoffs and beyond, that is our missing piece and has been for years.

personnally I like Vince Young, he's gonna be a star. that said there may not be a way for us to get him. if Jay Cutler is gonna be oa star franchise QB than we better make sure we get him

That might be a problem. Cutler's stock has risen and it is possible that someone like that lions could take him.

And Cutler, Young, or Lienhart could be a first round bust like Ryan Leaf.
I'm not saying McCown is who the 'Phins should go after, just that there's no more gaurantee that they'd find a future star in the draft (much less the first round) than in a reclamation project.

You don't know that, none of us do. Alot of fortune tellers on this board.

That all depends on the value Saban puts on him.
I find it interesting that so many of you are so confident in Sabans evaluation of a player.

This is simple.

If they think Cutler is a potential franchise QB then they may in fact mortgage the farm to trade up.
If they think he just dosen't have enough intangibles and potential to transfer his tools successfully to the NFL game then they might not even draft the guy if he fell to us at #16.

None of you KNOW we won't be able to get Cutler.
None of us even know if were seriously interested in Cutler.

Maybe, but I'd rather have Saban give the 'Phins the best chance to improve the team overall, then squander draft choices or money in free agency going after nonviable alternatives. If Saban determines that Cutler gives him a better chance at improving the 'Phins than whoever else they might draft at that spot (#16) or spots (#16 and whatever other choices or players they use to trade up), then I'm all for it. But there seem to be enough questions about Cutler's abilities that it looks like too much of a gamble at the present time. Maybe that might change after the combine and workouts, but that's just my opinion at the moment.

Wouldn't Saban want the best QB that would fit his offensive system and not just the big name guy. No use getting Young or Lienhart if they can't excute his offensive system. Now for who that guy might be that fits his system the best, I have no idea.
