I played tackle football with my boys from south florida today. I had a really nice christmas break, I miss SoFla. Every Christmas break we get a game going, today we had a 6 on 6 at Bamford Park in Davie.
I'm 6'5, 270, kinda slow but competitive, have great hands and break alot of tackles.
I dont play QB, but always call plays, i love offensive coordinating. So today i was captain, picked the bigger kids, the other team had smaller faster playmakers...
the first half of the game it was very defensive, we were losing 1-0 after 30 minutes of playing on a short feild (50 yards)..
so i felt like we should run more, we did and drove for a TD with 6 running plays in a row and a passing TD to cap the drive.
they scored in 2 plays making it 2-1.
so we get down on a 4th and forever. I call the wildcat play where my brother played Ronnie, takes the snap and hands off to my friend who does the ricky motion in the backfeild who then filps it back to me (pennington) and i hit a streaking cobbs for about 40 yards. It was the single funnest play I've called and executed. I never play QB, i got a weak arm, and luckily i had the wind, throwing one of my farthest passes ever, to a wide open cobbs. I felt like a postgame Pennington saying "I just thought, don't miss him"
We got a stop and after that, we ran mostly wildcat plays the rest of the game. We handed it off alot with my friend doing the ricky motion, he'd run right every time, and one he pitched it to our fasest guy (ginn) on a reverse and he ran it in untouched for 30 yards. We designed our Ricky guy to throw to a fasano like tall guy we had from the wild cat.
I caught only one pass, i normally played full back for running plays and TE style routes due to my speed. I did have about 6 rushes for about 25 yards total, and 2 passing TD's on 2 attempts...
The other Passing TD came from when we started doing the midseason style wildcat, we unleashed against Seattle. When you got ronnie take the snap with cobbs and ricky standing next to him in shotgun. I took a hand off from that formation but mostly blocked for the other guy who got many carries in that formation.. I also threw my TD in that formation, i took the handoff from my brother (Ronnie) and faked the run up the middle behind 3 blockers.. I pulled back and ronnie was in the flat by his lonesome, so it threw it to him and he walked in for a 10 yard TD..
It was alot of fun, I had:
1 rec, 8yards
6 carries, about 25 yards, TD
2/2 passing for 50 total yards and 2 TDs.. easily my best QB'ing of my life. lol
So i want you guys to try some wild cat plays when you play next. After starting behind 1-0 and 2-1, we won the game 7-4 and it was due to running the ball with shocking wildcat plays...
It felt like i was a Miami Dolphin playing in NE, week 3.
Thanks for the Wildcat Miami... It's meant so much to me in backyard and profession football.
