Today's OTA Practices up on Official Site

Things I noticed,

1) Beck is throwing the ball from behind his right ear, no low side arm throws...in warm ups anyway.

2) How do you as a WR drop a pass during warm ups? How? There's no pressure, no one near you, there's nothing on the line at that moment in time. You should never drop a pass in warm ups...NEVER! Where's Bills commandments for catching a football?

3) Pursuit, it seems to me that this is a point of emphasis in every practice. Maybe it goes without say, but I don't remember seeing this nearly as much last year as I've seen these first few camps....baby steps?

I also noticed the change in Beck's Throwing motion. It is no longer a side arm throw. He finally is throwing the ball over head.

I think this will be a big plus for him. I also think it will take a little time to get comfortable during live action with the change because it's just one more thing to concentrate on while doing 10 other things, question is does Beck have enough time to get comfortable? I think his time is limited, he needs to make the most of it. I don't put much into the notion Beck is to small to see past the line, Drew Brees and Doug Fluttie seemed to do quite well from a lower vantage point then Beck, so this is a rather silly non issue in my book.

I strongly agree with the pursuit. Everyone one must touch the ball, gotta love it.

I take it that one of our wrs droped the ball because it wasnt superglued to his hands. I can only guess who the suspect is.

With any luck, it won't take any time at all. It seems to be a common misconception that Beck had this "flawed" sidearm throwing motion his whole career. In fact, he had the prototypical 3/4 overhead motion that QB coach Lee makes so much about for his entire career, until he got hurt at BYU. The slight sidearm position was a result of Beck dropping his shoulder a little after he separated it. It's natural to protect the shoulder after an injury like that...most people do it unconsciously. It didn't seem to affect his throwing ability at BYU too much, that's for sure.

The point is, the "new" throwing motion isn't new to Beck at all. He's just had to get his shoulder back to doing it. Muscle memory and 7,500 passes since January 15th has probably taken care of any issues. I really don't think he's going to have to think about it.
