The improvement of Miami's secondary — especially cornerbacks Will Allen (pictured) and Jason Allen — and the dip in Dallas since his offseason departure may not be coincidence. Bowles spent two seasons on Parcells' Cowboys coaching staff and followed Sparano to Miami. Having played defensive back for eight NFL seasons, Bowles does an excellent job interacting with his players. Bowles, who turns 45 next Tuesday, was a finalist for the Cowboys head coaching vacancy that went to Wade Phillips in the 2007 offseason.

It links into an article about first year head coaches Smith, Harbaugh, Zorn, and Sparano and how Smith was the only one of those 4 to have held a coordinator position before being hired as head coach.

Unfortunately this means he'll have a DC job next year if not head coaching job. Oh well, always happens when we finally have some decent coaches.

So far so good, but we do need a bit more consistancy.

Unless Pasqualoni unexpectedly retires after the season, Bowles will not be taking a Defensive Coordinator position. The only way a coach can just get up and leave for another NFL franchise is if they are offered a head coaching position. Another team can request to interview Bowles and can try to hire him, but the Dolphins have final say whether or not he gets to go.

When Sean Payton went to become the Saints head coach, he wanted Tony Sparano to leave his position at Dallas as O-Line/Assistant Head Coach to become the Saints new OC. Parcells said no, and that was the end of that.

I doubt that Parcells and Sparano would let him leave for a DC job. Especially since they gave him the title of Secondary/Assistant Head Coach.

Unless Bowles gets a NFL head coaching job or a college position, he will be back with the Dolphins in 2009.

However, out of every assistant coach that is on this team, Bowles has always been the guy I thought would get a NFL head coaching shot. Obviously no one is going to hire Dan Henning since he is likely only out of retirement for two or three years.

After his Syracuse years, I don't see Pasqualoni getting a NFL head job any time real soon.

I think you are incorrect. A coach can take any position with another team that is a promotion. Sparano couldn't leave dallas because his title included "assistant head coach." Since Bowles is just a position coach, he could leave for a coordinator position.

Sorry, but this is not true. Jason Garrett was the QB coach, but needed permission from the Dolphins to leave and take the OC job in Dallas.

You Can't take another NFL position job without the team's permission, expect for head coaching jobs.

He's done a great job..seems like we've improved week after week, other than the Baltimore and Arizona games.

Either way this guy is out of here sooner or later. He has turned chicken crap into chicken soup... Goodman was someone almost everyone wanted cut now if you throw the ball anywhere near this guy it's getting batted down no questions asked. Also, everyone seems to forget our nice new fresh cornerback Jason Allen. I'm sure Bowles had a HUGE part in his progression. It was nice having you for a year Bowles good luck to you next year on your new team.

Lets not jump the gun just yet. Just because there was one article saying he could be a head coaching candidate doesn't mean he is definitely leaving this year. If I had to bet, I would say he is back with the Dolphins next year. 2010 is likely a different story.

I stand corrected - Bowles is doing an awesome job this year, and the entire coaching staff really has players playing up to their potential. Even though permission is required, I don't think Parcells is the kind of person who would prevent his coaches from interviewing for a position that would be perceived as a promotion.

It would be nice to hold a coaching staff together for a few years. The possible continuity could be huge for the teams future.

I actually think Parcells could be a guy that would stand in the way of promotion. He did it in Dallas when the Saints wanted Sparano as OC. I just can't see Parcells or Sparano letting him walk to another team to be a Coordinator.

Other than him, I don't think there is any real risk of losing our assistant coaches to other teams. Unless a college team shows up and hires someone like Karl Dorrell, we should finally have some continuity on the coaching staff. That will be very nice.

The point is moot anyway since Bowles does in fact have the title of Assistant Head Coach. He isnt going anywhere.

The only change we may see as soon as this season, however, is David Lee becoming OC. I'm not sure how long Henning planned to stay on board, but it will be a short stay IMO. I imagine the system will be kept intact.
