Does anyone else out there think the Pats took a pretty big gamble on Tom Brady this time around? Letting Castle go was a pretty clear statement that the Pats think Tom will return to true pro bowl form but I have asked the question “What if he doesn’t?” Knees are a tricky thing and by no means a guarantee with the extent of his injury.

I wonder if Miami truly had a franchise QB right now that was young to mid carrier and he went down with an injury like Brady’s and the backup played above and beyond if the Trifecta would have let him go. I guess I am just curious to see how this all plays out and given the luck of the Patriot’s over the past years I would love to see them get bit right in the *** for once.

I wouldn't say it's a big gamble but there has to be some uncertainty. Undoubtedly they'll have done very thorough research to make sure Brady is coming along well from his injury. I can't see there being any problem for them other than, possibly, his being a little rusty for about the first ten minutes of the season.

I have no doubt he'll be rusty at first, but after a few weeks I expect him to be Tom Brady again. It will be interesting to see how they use him in the pre-season.

I bet he is happy to be back and have his new "Rule" this year, and at the same time is scared to see #99 back in a Dolphins uniform.

No. Next question.

I wouldn't be so optimistic. It was a big injury and I bet he will never be as mobile as he was before, at least not this season. I do however applaud the way the Pats got rid of Castle, most bang for the buck. A lot of QB’s have one good season the question is can they have ten. I guess at the end of next season we will all know the answer to my question.

I dont think the knee will affect Brady's mobility since he was never that mobile or a running threat anyway. One thing that is worth noting is that the injury was to his left knee, which means he will be planting the left leg when releasing the ball, which could prove problematic since he will be putting pressure on it.

I think it would be like if Dan went down and a back up came in and played well. Well not great. Didn't take them to the playoffs or anything.

Would you want that guy or Dan?

The decision in my opinion for the Pats was simple and they made out well from it.

Tom will come back and play like his old self I'm sure. He's confident and he has great doctors working on him. He's a winner and even if he's not 100% he'll find a way to win.

I never sugested to get rid of Brady that would just be flat out stupid. What I wonder is if the Pats will regret getting rid of their backup. Castle knew the system, it was obvious by his play last season.

With that said I am not convinced that Castle is a geat or even good QB yet. Ask me that qustion in three or four years and I will have that answer.

I guess I am tired of the Pats stepping in **** all the time and coming out smelling like a rose. I would like to see them bit in the *** once by something.

HAHAHAHA we all feel that way around here.

I think they feel there systems are strong enough that they could paly anyone and be successful and they maybe right.

Actually his plant would be his right knee.

I don't know that they could have done much else, other than sign Cassel to an extension last September. Cassel was due to become a free agent so he had no incentive to do that. The only way New England could retain him was to franchise him, and with the salary cap it wasn't worth it to keep both he and Brady.

I'm sure they would have liked to keep Cassel as Brady's backup once again at Cassel's 2008 salary, but that wasn't going to happen. If they keep Cassel then they can't sign any of the other free agents they picked up, and they don't add an early second round draft pick.
