There is much speculation in the NY NJ area that Tom Coughlin may be a gonner after the season. SO......I know he is old (69) but in my mind fits exactly what this team needs. He is a tough, diciplinarian who will get these guys to play smart, fundemental football. If a Sean Payton were available he would be my first choice, but it sounds like we would have to give up too much compensation, if he even wants to come here.
I think Coughlin still wants to coach, and a change of scenery would do him good. I don't think we can afford to go the unproven coordinator route again, we need an experienced guy to come in right away and command respect, kick ass and squeeze every ounce of talent out of these underachievers.

While he has won two Super Bowls, I wan't no parts of him. His decisions and game management led to them directly losing at least 3 games this year

Compared to what we have had since Shula he's 14k old gold. He'd be better than most names thrown about here the last year or so.

Depends on who else we're looking at.

Coughlin or Mangini? I'll roll with the old man.

No doubt has made some bad coaching decisions this year, but overall is still a solid HC. Huge improvement over what we are used to.

If Tom Coughlin is fired I would hire him in a second.

- Experience building a team from the ground up (did it with the expansion Jags)
- Excellent at developing QBs and the entire team really
- Excellent eye for talent. Has always done a great job with the players drafted. He's had a hand in who the teams draft.
- 4-3 defensive guy which is important since Suh is our highest paid player.
- Only coach in the league that can match wits with Belichick.
- Tough nosed, disciplined football coach...this team would not be soft.

Yeah. He's the kind of coach we would be excited to get if he weren't 70 years old.

Not by first choice but the fact of the matter is he had a very untalented team play hard and stay competitive all year.

I do think its time to make the change in NY. I would take Coulglin here to at least right the ship, just make sure he has a head coach in training on his staff

Far from a choice I can get excited about, still IMO, we could do worse, but because of his age, he'd be a short term fix. Looks like the Giants problems stem more from Reese being a crappy GM than Coughlin an HC... although he's not without culpability either.

He's the same age as Bruce Arians, IIRC. I'd be stoked if we got Arians, so not sure age is all that relevant if you think he can do a good job.

I'm with you, but I'm way out there on this. I'm the kind of guy who wanted Marty Schottenheimer in 2012.

I would take him, he has demonstrated the ability to beat the Patriots with less talented teams!

I wouldn't be disappointed with Coughlin for a year or two to help bring some stability to the team as well as rebuild the coaching ranks. We certainly need experience and a coach with good contacts to do that. However, at Coughlin's age, I can't see him coaching much beyond another couple of years and I wouldn't be surprised at all if he simply retires.
