Michael Vick's mentor, Tony Dungy, scolded the Eagles quarterback for drinking in public after the New York Post revealed he was drinking Grey Goose and pineapple juice in a Philadelphia airport bar.

"Michael, you can't do that," Dungy told Vick,

Eagles spokesman Derek Boyko told the Philadelphia Inquirer that drinking alcohol is "not in conflict with terms of (Vick's) probation or reinstatement with the NFL."

Dungy relayed to King that even though alcohol may not be completely banned, he must not present a negative image. Said King, "He can't give the media or the public any ammunition to suggest he isn't doing everything he can to live a clean life and devote himself totally to football."

After all Vick went through with them dogs, losing his contracts and the best years of his career the man should be able to enjoy a drink in an airport.

Vick has to realize he's under a microscope now, even though he did nothing wrong here, people are watching him closely and waiting for his first slip up. He can't give people ammo that easily. Stay out of the Bars Mike.

oh so true.... there's no better cure than alcohol to any problem lol :chuckle:

In the Army, NCOs and officers were bound by what was considered "An appearance of impropriety".

More or less, you were expected to set the example to other soldiers and not engage in behavior that could raise eyebrows, but wasn't necessarially against Army regs. In short; Look at how others will precieve your public actions, and, act accordingly.

Vick should not have been drinking. It's not that there is anything specifically illegal about it....He still should have known better...But he clearly doesn't.......

And that doesn't surprise me one little bit.

I think it's all the PETA members grasping at straws for this one. Let the guy enjoy a drink, sheesh.

Dungy is SUPER religious so I'm sure he doesn't think anyone should drink. As long as Vick doesn't get drunk in public he isn't doing anything wrong. The guy did his time and is a free man. His probation doesn't restrict him from drinking, only excessive drinking which is the norm for all people on probo.

You're supposed to drink in public. If you're drinking alone then you have a problem. Tony should leave Vick alone now and go become friends with Donte Stallworth.

Should Vick be able to drink in public? Absolutely.
Is it wise? Absolutely not.
I agree with other posters that there is an unfairness here. But life is not fair.

Imagine, there is Vick sitting in a bar minding his own business and having a couple of brews. Along comes some drunken fool(s) who decide to start something. Vick doesn't do anything to escalate the situation, but next thing you know there is some type of altercation. Headline in the papers the next day reads:

VICK INVOLVED IN BAR ROOM BRAWL

Again, not fair, and Vick could be totally innocent. But would this help or hurt his reputation and comeback?

Be smart, Mike. Tony is wise. He can see the trouble before it even walks in the door.

Yeah he’s (Tony)is right,he has to get his mind & body into football mode all the way....He better be happy he has a 2nd chance. If he wanted a drink so bad, do it in the privacy of his home.

Swallow the pride Mike…listen, he’s a wise man.
