Yeah......you guessed it.....yet ANOTHER Saban post. This one, however, is aimed at all those people here with their panties in a bunch about Saban's remarks. This crap is really getting old and once again only further proves what I have stated in the past.....Dolphin fans are the most fickle fans in sports. For those who went off half-****ed at carefully selected soundbytes put together by ESPN, let's get the WHOLE story and then see how ignorant you feel for blasting a guy that is taking a TRAINWRECK of a team and REBUILDING it into a future competitor. The following are the remarks (as printed in the Sun Sentinel) that ESPN didn't bother to show (probably in an effort to get Phins fans bent out of shape) because they, like any other news network know that controversy sells.

"The record doesn't really matter, the result doesn't matter and the score in the game doesn't really matter," Saban said. "Making decisions based on record, where we are, how much time is left in the game or what the score is, that is not how decisions are going to get made around here."

A less emotional Saban later called a group of writers in an effort to clarify the aforementioned comments, so that fans would understand that he does care about every game.

"The big picture is we're not focused on outcomes, but we're trying to get the process right so we could be more competitive, win more games and get the corner turned," Saban said. "For someone to say the season doesn't matter, that's not it at all.

"We're all working our tail off here to get the players to play the way they need to play to get the corner turned."

For those here that aren't so bull-headed that they have actually written Saban off, you are welcome to read the rest of this story by following the link.

Honestly, it's a damned shame that so many here are so quick to hang a new coach for doing his job. Well, it didn't take long for the wolves to turn on the man, that's for sure. If any of you can honestly say, at this point in the season, that Saban needs to be fired, then DON'T expect ANY head coach with decent credentials to take this team or it's fans seriously again. Saban doesn't deserve the treatment that many of you are giving him now and in truth, many of you don't deserve someone the caliber of Saban attempting to restore the Phins back to their former glory. I guess it is true that you just can't please some people.....and quite honestly, many of those people are Phins fans. Fickle.

I don't know about you, but I wish he'd just keep most of this to himself. What happened to the Nick Saban who didn't want the media to be let into the circle when it comes to all this? It appears to me he slipped up in his attempts to remain PC. I support him, just don't want him making anymore statements close to what we saw.

Why? What makes your way better?

This feels like a rebuilding year but he won't come out and say we are rebuilding, he says it's about evaluating. He is confusing himself and the team IMO as to what is going on

To avoid this bs media blitz.........this kind of thing can cause alot of lockeroom problems.

As much dark truth as there is in his statements, when he speaks them it's a shot in the back of veterans on the team or people with higher expectations than he does.

Actually, he has stated on more than one occasion that he is building for the future. He has also sent a message by getting rid of players that either aren't buying into his plan, aren't showing the instestinal fortitude to be a winner, or are just plain screw-ups (and in some cases, all three). I really don't see where the confusion is.

Or perhaps it may light some fires under some otherwise lazy keisters? Just a thought...

Or it can be used to creat the us against the world/we are underdogs/the media hates and has no respect for us mindset that can unite a team. In this case I think it will unite some of the team and the ones who dont get on board will be gone.

So, you think that keeping it out of the media and in the lockeroom will avoid problems? Riiiight. Hey, the guy is the HEAD FRIGGIN COACH! Not only that, he's a HC that calls it as he sees it. If his comments cause problems in the lockeroom it's probably because of the truth in his words. If that is the case, those players that have issues can do one of two things:

1. They can step up and play like a winner and perform like a championship caliber player should.

2. They can pout and take their arse to another team and suck up their cap space.

Either way I don't see a downside.

It's because it's a contradiction to his "not wanting to label the season" speech prior to the start of the 2005 season.

All's I'm saying is if, like prior to the season beginning, he doesn't want the media having influence on this team anymore like it did with Wanny then don't make these kinds of statements in the media. It doesn't take a genious to see it would cause problems. You knew the moment the speech came out of his mouth it was going to be open to a whole bunch of criticism.

Look at Mike Tice after the love boat scandal broke. Anytime somebody brought it up - NEXT QUESTION! ............somebody struck a nerve in Saban and he lost composure as evidenced by the need he felt to go clarify himself after the fact.

It fits under the idea that teams will never come out and tell you "hey were going to stink for a few years so we can be better down the road." It's undoutedly a dark truth to football, but it's spoken in private, not to the sensationalistic media.

I think he needed to say it. He needed to make clear to the fans and management what he was doing and the reasons for doing so. He took this team one step back this year and he needed to say, as he did, that the reason for that is that we take three steps forward next year. Good for him. Now that its out of the way he shouldnt address it anymore. The media be damned.

Why though did he absolutely have to do it in the media instead in front of the team?

You have to be more careful what you say to the world, it is big business. The media is aweful, they will spin anything.
