Lets all try to remember that SABAN is our head coach. He has the final say about EVERYTHING. Linehan, while a very good OC didnt have us winning until St. Nick decided to put him on the field. A friend of mine follows the Vikings with the same zeal that we all follow our Fins. He actually thought that Linehan was overrated and too often came up short in big games and that he had such great sucess in Minesota because of Culpepper and Moss having such great chemistry. As proof of that look how lost both Culpepper and Moss were without each other, ever before both of them got injured. Linehan did not look so great at the beginning of the season until Saban made some corrections (not Linehan, i.e moving him to the field and simplfiying the offense a bit. The point I'm making is that Mularkey will do what Saban tells him to do. Mularkey's job will be to teach that effectively to the Offense. Hudson is still there taking care of the Line and Bagget is still there as well. Rember also that Saban went after Mularkey the second that he resigned from the Bills and didnt want him to leave his office without singing a contract, Im sure he knows something about this guy that the Bills fans and the rest of us don't, and thats the fact that this guy can do the job. If anything Mularkey will be here a few years, I doubt he's too interested in another HC job for a while. Keep the faith, Saban knows what he's doing.

Agree.... Good post!!!

I also agree, I think Saban is in control and has had a plan from the second he was offerd the job. All he does is look for ways to improve the team. We have an owner willing to give Saban any means to succeed and thats what it takes to build a winner. Saban was looking for a team like the Dolphins as bad as the Dolphins were looking for a coach like him. It's a good fit for both.

Bill Cowher was gushing over the man yesterday after the Steelers AFC Championship game win and i'm sure that Bill was one of the first people Nick talked to when inquiring information about Mularkey. I bet Bill gave his sincere 100% recommendation and that's why Nick was so hell bent on getting him here. Remember, the Jet's fans were calling the Patriots stupid when Bellicheck left New York to go be head coach of the patriots same as the Bills fans are calling us stupid for hiring Mike as our O-Coordinator... you can't just look at the man, you have to look at the situation.. and with Saban here and Houck and Baggett if Mularkey decides to retain him, he'll have a great set of assistants and a head coach that will help him get the best out of everyone..

Agreed....Trust Saban to know what he is doing.

I think we can be assured a sweep of the bills this year, getting a HC from a division rival has many advantages besides he made Kordell look so good he went to the pro bowl.

I haven't read all the posts about Mularkey, but wasn't aware so many people were concerned about Mularkey...he's a pretty good OC folks...His tenure in Barfalo wasn't pristine, but it's not comparing the same things when you talk about his failing as a HC versus the Jills success as an offense.

I dissagree that Linehan wasn't successful until he was moved to the sidelines...no where was it said that Saban decided that was the right move for SL and that was that. Everyone assumes because Saban has a rep as running things with an iron fist, that he forced the issue...It could very well have been Linehan's idea. He ran the offense from the field at Louisville, maybe he felt it was a good move as well ?? Lets not make too much of Saban being the instigator of the O's better success in the last 6 games. Besides, we very well could have/should have lost 2 of those games.

MM brings a slightly different offense, but not a significantly different. His philosophy on O is more in line with Saban's. He brings a tough offense that can run the ball when it's needed, but is innovative enough to utilize the other skilled players he has with gadget plays as well as a vertical, downfield passing game basis. If you didn't like SL's reverses and counter action run plays, you won't like MM's either. But they are similar, although SL is a little more pass happy than MM...One thing that will change is the utilization of RM...SL's system used the TE more for pass protection than for receiving. MM likes to use the TE in the middle of the field...

At any rate, the fact that Saban had a plan as to who was available and who would fit this team best is the most remarkable aspect of this hiring. He didn't let any grass grow in SL's office...That's a good thing considering the wishy-washy decision making of the past two regimes....

Is there anyway these contracts can lock the coordinator in for a few years? Maybe that's why Mularkey didn't sign at first???

I don't see Mularkey becoming another head coach in the next few years.

He was told he would have full control of the offense, as Linehan also had under Saban.

Control and "final say" are two different things.....;)

This is a good hire! He'll probably stick around for a couple years too, which'll give us a couple SuperBowl runs if all goes well.

Martz may have been a better choice w/ Xs and Os offensively, but he's an arrogant baffoon who Saban would kill in about a week. Mularky knows his place here and he has excelled in the position he will now be in - OC!

Bottom line is, speed of the captain, speed of the crew. Saban is steering the ship!

They definitly are!!

My wife and I have the same agreement! :)

I think MM needs less to worry about. I don't think he is a good HC but he'll do very well as an OC. IMO
