My gut feeling is this years draft was 100% different from last year because .....we drafted for position need vs. best player available.

Reasoning ......this team came together quickly and is further along than the trio planned.

2 corners and technically 3 wideouts with the first 5 picks. That's crazy....but that's really what we needed....wasn't it? 1 huge corner to cover moss and owens and one huge reciever to compliment what we already have.

That's filling needs to me...yeah i think they reached on all these players when chosen in their respected rounds, but i think its going to work out. Don't put so much value on when they were choosen vs. why they were chosen. It makes more sense this way.

Let these guys play out a bit. Look at the guys that made a difference last year.

Nobody was screaming for Langford,Merling,Bess,Thomas in last years draft. Were we?

We were all screaming for wide outs, corners, and wildcat help. That's pretty much what we got.

Next year will be linebacker heavy for sure. They must love wake and/or already know they are getting taylor back.

You just can't make everyone happy...so don't try.

How fast we Dolphin fans forget the past drafts...the past draft pick give aways. The Dolphins drafted what they needed....CB's and Receivers....so why complain?

Did they have other needs....possibly....but you can't fix everything in one draft...this is just draft two...ask yourself...are we better today than we were two years ago....YES.

How could we be screaming for wild cat help before last years draft when we had not even THOUGHT of using the wild cat till weeks into the season??????

We did need corners and we got them!

I would have been more excited to have picked a true #1 wide receiver who can put points on the board rather than run of the mill which we allready have plenty

As for being furthur ahead than expected take into consideration the EASY schedule we had last year

take into consideration games towards the end of the season where New England kicked our butts, how about the playoff game when we were spanked bad or even the san fran game we won but were outplayed the whole game ...

No,this season will be a telling tale to how far along this team is since the level of comitition is so much greater than last year

I don't understand all the complaining either. Last year we loaded up on big offensive and defensive lineman. This year we focused a great deal on d-backs, and wide receivers, something we totally neglected last year. I think Parcells is putting the pieces together. I think we could end up signng JT, and acquiring a couple more players before the season starts. We have nice depth now and more talented team. Too many people want the sexy names but that's not what makes a team. You need the scrappers and hard workers. I listen to what Rich Rodriguez (former WVU Coach) says about Pat White and I can't wait to see him play. :woot:

some people here need a Paxil script until September comes

The fancy names..fancy schools...but many forget that not every player fits our scheme. The Dolphins have one of the smallest boards in the NFL....appx 125 players...out of what 350 or more possible players in the draft. You can't pick players that don't fit...or have many other reasons why they don't make the grade.

Thats why listening to guys like Kiper make you laugh...all he knows are stats...he doesn't know the make up of the players...their hearts and strengths.

I figured this negativity was going to occur. It happens every year, it even happened last year for goodness sake. You can never please everyone and the ones that are negative are always much louder then the positive people.

Let's be honest though, who thought we wouldn't draft a linebacker?

There was a lot of crying last year and we had a 10 improvment. So I say it's a good thing people are crying now.

Last year was the honeymoon draft, this year? not so much. Look 1-15 to 11-5 allows the staff a lot of leeway but you know what? to think they are infallable and uncritiquable (sP) is naive also. Esp. in the wake of this whole wilford bust. Oh and yes not everyone from last years draft made the team either.

I knew this negativity would happen as it always does......there are people on this board that hate everything the FO does and they will always be like that.......we have a much better secondary plus the 2 WR's will add to our offence as will White.....in the end,you have to wait 2 or 3 years to know how the draft really went.

Ozzy rules!!

Bottom line, we were pushed around by Baltimore in the trenches of the playoff game. If you watched the final rounds of the AFC playoffs it was difficult to project the Dolphins matching up physically with Tennessee, Baltimore or Pittsburgh.

Granted, the scenario changes from year to year. If New England comes back healthy then the type of football changes in the playoffs, more dispersion. But overall I was disappointed and somewhat miffed that we seemed to draft like an 11-5 team instead of an 8-8 team, which is where we might be on merit. If the bigger guys were better, the Wildcat might not exist.

I know Parcells coined, "You are what you are." But due to the typical bounce tendency of a team that severely overachieves one year naturally falling back the next year, I'm not anticipating playoffs in 2009. I wanted the roster to be fortified as a consolation, particularly in the trenches. I don't see how we achieved that.

It seemed like a Shula draft in day two, a mid '80s to retirement Shula draft, with a couple of exceptions, one without muscle and stocked with unexciting picks including a few who could be assigned the waiver wire almost immediately.

To me this is what they had in mind for building a team long term...

Year One: OL & DL, Bonus - QB, RB
Year Two: WR & CB, Bonus - QB/RB (Pat White, hybrid)
Year Three: TE & LB, Bonus - RB?

The Dolphins feel like they fortified their lines a year ago and they added to that process by trading Samson Satele for Jake Grove. They took ascending guys like Phil Merling, Kendall Langford, Randy Starks, and Donald Thomas. I am quite sure they felt like there is just no point in replacing those investments before they've been given time to fully mature, especially since all of those investments looked very promising.

We got a big WR who played a prostyle offense. DB's set who are thumpers. Special Teams players here. The big picture one block at a time.
