The Jets have a lousy left guard, san fran has some lousy guards, baltimores guards appear mediocre, tampa has some o-line problems.
Since 50% of runs go through the middle, the center matters. It's not a coincidence that 7 of the top-10 rushing teams have top-10 centers, and 8 of the bottom-10 rushing teams have bottom-10 centers.
1. Sean O'Hara - Chris Sneed is a pro bowler
2. Dan Koeppen - Logan Mankins was a pro bowler
3. Nick Mangold - Alan Faneca is a pro bowler
4. Casey Weigmann - Ben Hamilton has played together for almost eight seasons in the same system.
5. Jamaal Jackson - Shawn Andrews was a pro bowler
6. Eric Heitmann - Adam Snyder won the Pac-10's Morris Trophy as the conference's top lineman
7. Ryan Kalil - Keydrick Vincent is one of the best run blockers in the NFL when healthy. Travelle Wharton is not a bad run blocker himself.
8. Jonathan Goodwin - Jahri Evans has played together for the past two seasons and is a part of one of the best OL in football.
9. Jeff Faine - Aaron Sears & Davin Joseph are young and aggressive but inconsistent, just like the Bucs running game.
10. Jason Brown - Ben Grubbs is a monster of a run blocker
Of course the center is important...as is the guard next to him because they do a lot of combination blocks.
Also does those stats from Football Outsiders take into account whether or not those runs are draws or cut back runs? I doubt since they take their stats from NFL.com game play by play where the information just shows the results of the play.
