1. Jason Taylor – was there any doubt. Had one of the greatest all-time seasons for a DE…62 tackles, 13.5 sacks, 10 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, 2 interceptions for 71 return yards and 2 TDs, and tied for 2nd on team with 11 passes defensed.
2. Zach Thomas – Led the NFL in tackles with 165. Also contributed 3 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and 1 interception. Just keeps doing it year after year after year.
3. Vernon Carey – IMO one of the most underrated OL in the NFL. Stepped up his game this past year. The only play that worked consistently the whole year was Run-Ronnie-Right. I would hate to think of how bad the OL would have been without this guy.
4. Ronnie Brown – Still waiting for that breakout year. Will it ever happen? Contributed 241 carries for 1008 yards (4.2 per carry) and 5 TDs. Throw in 33 receptions for 276 yards.
5. Vonnie Holliday – Miami had more than just JT along the DL. Holliday was 4th (ZT 165, Crowder 104, R. Hill 83) on team in tackles with 66, 2nd in sacks with 7 and 2nd in hurries 12 (JT 14).
6. Will Allen – Not special, but without him in the secondary we would have been in BIG trouble. 7th on team in tackles with 56, 1 sack, 1 interception, 1 forced fumbles, led team in fumble recoveries with 3.
7. Marty Booker – Chambers was so bad last year that without Booker’s contribution we may have been one of the all-time worst passing teams EVER. 4th on the team in receptions with 55 but led team in receiving yards (747) and TDs (6).
8. Yeramiah Bell – Should have started the year as a starter. Not great, but biggest playmaker in the secondary. 5th in tackles with 65, contributed 2 sacks, 3 hurries, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, and led team with 12 passes defensed.
9. Wes Welker – Led team in receptions with 67 for 687 yards and 1 TD. Also contributed 41 punt returns for 378 yards (9.2 average) and 48 kickoff returns for 1064 yards (22.2 average). May take 3 players to fill the roles Welker did last year.
10. Joey Harrington – Knock him all you want, but hard to imagine how bad we would have really been playing Culpepper play all year? Then again we would be getting our choice between Russell and Johnson had he played all year. Led team to 5-6 record that included 6 games against playoff teams winning 3 of those games.
That is my list. What is yours? Who deserves honorable mention not on the list?
