1. Jason Taylor – was there any doubt. Had one of the greatest all-time seasons for a DE…62 tackles, 13.5 sacks, 10 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, 2 interceptions for 71 return yards and 2 TDs, and tied for 2nd on team with 11 passes defensed.

2. Zach Thomas – Led the NFL in tackles with 165. Also contributed 3 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and 1 interception. Just keeps doing it year after year after year.

3. Vernon Carey – IMO one of the most underrated OL in the NFL. Stepped up his game this past year. The only play that worked consistently the whole year was Run-Ronnie-Right. I would hate to think of how bad the OL would have been without this guy.

4. Ronnie Brown – Still waiting for that breakout year. Will it ever happen? Contributed 241 carries for 1008 yards (4.2 per carry) and 5 TDs. Throw in 33 receptions for 276 yards.

5. Vonnie Holliday – Miami had more than just JT along the DL. Holliday was 4th (ZT 165, Crowder 104, R. Hill 83) on team in tackles with 66, 2nd in sacks with 7 and 2nd in hurries 12 (JT 14).

6. Will Allen – Not special, but without him in the secondary we would have been in BIG trouble. 7th on team in tackles with 56, 1 sack, 1 interception, 1 forced fumbles, led team in fumble recoveries with 3.

7. Marty Booker – Chambers was so bad last year that without Booker’s contribution we may have been one of the all-time worst passing teams EVER. 4th on the team in receptions with 55 but led team in receiving yards (747) and TDs (6).

8. Yeramiah Bell – Should have started the year as a starter. Not great, but biggest playmaker in the secondary. 5th in tackles with 65, contributed 2 sacks, 3 hurries, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, and led team with 12 passes defensed.

9. Wes Welker – Led team in receptions with 67 for 687 yards and 1 TD. Also contributed 41 punt returns for 378 yards (9.2 average) and 48 kickoff returns for 1064 yards (22.2 average). May take 3 players to fill the roles Welker did last year.

10. Joey Harrington – Knock him all you want, but hard to imagine how bad we would have really been playing Culpepper play all year? Then again we would be getting our choice between Russell and Johnson had he played all year. Led team to 5-6 record that included 6 games against playoff teams winning 3 of those games.

That is my list. What is yours? Who deserves honorable mention not on the list?

I agree with everything except Harrington. You can make your argument that he was better than Culpepper, which you have done extensively (and pretty well even though I disagree with you). But to say he was one of our 10 best players last year is strecthing it to me. I'd put Crowder on the list. He racked up a bunch of tackles.

I actually had Crowder on the list and Joey was a last minute replacement. I thought Crowder was steady, but not a big play maker.

No Donnie Jones? Shocking. :D

I'd drop Will Allen a few spots. He was solid but unspectacular much like Crowder.

1. Jason Taylor
2. Zach Thomas
3. Ronnie Brown
4. Vonnie Holliday
5. Yeremiah Bell
6. Vernon Carey
7. Wes Welker
8. Keith Traylor - Without him, we'd be giving up a lot more rushing yards and zach would have a much harder time dealing with OL's.
9. Donnie Jones
10. Joey Harrington

Yeah I agree. He wasn't a big playmaker in the sense that JT and Zach are. I don't know if that is because he plays next to a guy like Zach or what. But I thought he was pretty solid.

Yes...excellent point about Traylor. He is one of those players that stats don't tell the true measure of his worth.

 I just assume everyone knows DJ is head and shoulders above everyone else.

Even then, his stats are still pretty good for a NT. 4 sacks, 2 passes defended (which is more than either Travis Daniels or Jason Allen), and a FF. That's why we re-signed him.

Ah, point taken. DJ's number is uncategorizable. :)

When your punter and an O-lineman make the top ten and your QB does not, you know you are screwed.

If Ronnie Brown was really our 4th best woe, woe, woe are the Dolphins.

Why is this guy getting so much adoration????

I agree he has potential to be decent but he hasn't done anything special.

Vonnie Holiday should have made the pro-bowl.

You know when Will Allen and Marty Booker are the 6th and 7th best players on an NFL roster , the team flat out stinks ..
