MY TOP TEN LEAST FAVORITE DOLPHINS OF ALL TIME
(In no particular order)
1. A.J. Feeley - Nothing more than a #3 QB and we overpaid DEARLY for him. Terrible pocket presence and awful decision making made Jay Fiedler look like a decent QB.
2. Gene Atkins - Not a very good player and definitely not a good human being. Hired a hitman to kill his wife after he left football.
3. Paul Lankford - In seeing that awful 51-45 game against the Jets from 1986, that brought back so many memories of what a liability Lankford was in coverage.
4. Mark Royals - Simply put, the worst punter in Dolphins history. Picked the worst moments to deliver his worst kicks.
5. Ray Lucas - He was simply awful in 2002 with the Dolphins. First class guy that took media criticism and fan hatred right on the chin. It's funny how he looked like a guy with a lot of potential playing under Bill Parcells in 1999. Could it have been coaching??????
6. Jay Fiedler - Now I know that Fiedler is a first class guy and a hard and selfless worker. I don't blame Fiedler for being the Dolphins starter for four years. He was a competitor and did his best, even though he didn't have enough arm strength or touch to be a starter. I blame Dave Wannstedt for not recognizing Fiedler's shortcomings and seeing him for what he was, a top backup.
7. Cecil Collins / Lawrence Phillips (Tie) - Both talented guys who really didn't do anything with the Dolphins, except bring embarassment to this fine organization.
8. Keith Byars - Some of you may be saying "What is he talking about???". Byars was a great player during his time with the Dolphins. He was probably the finest receiving back ever to wear a Dolphins uniform. But after being cut by Jimmy Johnson, he went to the Jets and brought the entire Dolphins playbook with him. I understand that he wanted to get back at Jimmy Johnson for cutting him, but he let down his old teammates and fans with such a traitorous act.
9. Sammie Smith - Touted as the running back that would finally add the other dimension that Miami's offense lacked. He was big and fast. He also had a knack for fumbling around the goal line. One of the most frustrating players to watch. Then messed his life up after football by getting involved in selling drugs.
10. Eddie Blake - Here was a guy who had all world potential. Big, strong and a mauler in the running game. Could have made a HUGE impact in Miami's running game had he had any kind of work ethic. So what does he do? He says that Don Shula "isn't man enough to start (Blake)". Yeah, that's the reason Eddie.
