May be a little off topic but I hope the mods let it fly.

My friend and I were talking about the top 5 sports figures in Miami history and we want to see how others feel, so lets hear it.

My top 5

1)Wade
2)Pat Riley
3)Marino
4)Shula
5)Alonzo Mourning

it was a real toss up between csonka and zo, but csonka was well before my time, so I went with the one from my generation.

So no James, Shaq or any marlins? They did win two WS since we last went to a super bowl and the panthers went to a stanley cup after our last super bowl appearance

Ozzy rules

LeBron and Shaq were not here long enough. The Marlins don't have anyone more beloved than Dolphin and Heat players.

Shula, Marino, Wade, and Riley are easily the top 4. Then #5 is between several people, including Zo, Haslem, Jason Taylor, Csonka, Zach Thomas, ect.

I understand. How about JJ as a canes HC or some of the many great players that came out of the U? And Gresee should get some consideration too with 2 rings.

If we're including college too (I was just thinking pro), Howard Schnellenberger or Jimmy Johnson. If we're doing players, there's so many to choose from. Michael Irvin, Jerome Brown, Ed Reed, Ray Lewis, Edgerrin James, ect.

Stick to pro sports. 5 spots is too small as it is. Here's mine in order of magnitude:

1. Shula - and by huge margin
2. Marino - sure, no SBs but was a generational, dominant player
3. Wade
4. Cszonka
5. Everyone on that Marlins team that collectively made $1,000 in salary between them all and then whooped the Yankees in the World Series.

IMO, Wade has surpassed Marino, although that will be a tough agree on a Dolphins board.

1. Don Shula
2. Dwayne Wade
3. Dan Marino
4. Pat Riley (cannot rate him over the top 3 as he is just as famous for his work in LA, top 3 are SoFla only)
5. Lebron James

In 4 years, Lebron brought an electricity to the South Florida sports scene that may be unmatched. With nobody really sticking out for five, I gave it to him.

1. Don Shula
2. Dan Marino
3. Jimmy Johnson
4. Dwayne Wade
5. Pat Riley

Obviously opinion but......

Since only 6% of Sports fans call the NBA their favorite sport....while 35% call the NFL their favorite....

Shula
Marino
Csonka
Riley
Wade

Since so many aren't interested in the NBA....its arguable as to whether it should even make the list.

1) Don Shula
2) Dan Marino
3) Dwyane Wade
4) Pat Riley/Micky Arison (I put them both at 4 because they're both equally instrumental for creating a perennially successful basketball franchise in South Florida - one of the best in the NBA since the turn of the century)
5) Jeff Conine (obligatory Marlins mention)

Even though those percentages may be the case, when you have one sport bringing you three titles in the last 10 years while the other sport is working on a 43 year title drought . . . The notion seems comical when talking South Florida sports.
