Complete GARBAGE. Love Castillo...love Miguel, Dontrelle, etc.

But no way should anyone other than JEFF ****ING CONINE be in that top spot. He's Mr. Marlin for a reason. Absolute slap in the face.

And I'll make a bold statement here and defend it: Behind Dan Marino stands only Jeff Conine for the most beloved athlete the city has ever had. That's above all of the great Miami Hurricanes as well as Alonzo Mourning. And until Dwyane Wade decides on his future in Miami, he will continue to take a backseat to Jeff Conine.

Also, the only reason he's "Mr. Marlin" is because he just happened to be on the inaugural 1993 team, and was there for both championships, which made him a fan favorite. He was always like the 6th or 7th best player on the team.
 
Who else is above Jeff Conine for most beloved athlete? It's easily Dan Marino at the top. Maybe you make a case for Alonzo Mounring at the two spot but after that....what do ya got? Conine absolutely is up there.

Dwyane Wade, Alonzo Mourning, Miguel Cabrera, Dontrelle Willis, and even Tim Hardaway before he became a homophobe. I can probably count in one hand the number of people I've seen wearing Conine jerseys in my life.

I'm only buying Alonzo out of those names. Just can't see Dontrelle or Miguel being above Niner.
 
u gotta throw in wade bro he gave us a title most recent, just because u do not wear the jersey of the player doesn't mean you are not a fan of him

They were easily more popular and hence more beloved as evidenced by all the jerseys and shirts you saw back then and still today. Very rare to find anything with Conine's name on it.

As much as I think Conine is Mr. Marlin . . . in which I think there is no doubt that he should have been the number 1 guy on this list . . . . u gotta remember this is baseball.

U can't put him above Marino, Mourning, Shaq (well after the 2006 championship), Wade, Dontrelle or Cabrera IMO. Hell u can make an argument for John Vanbesbrouck (sp?) on that 96 Panthers team . . . and also Tim Hardaway. Hell being a football town can u put him above Zach and Jason Taylor? Maybe Pavel Bure? If Luongo would have stayed I think he would have passed Conine also. Ricky in 2002 was untouchable. Conine just never had that great year to put him on a list like this. Chad Pennington if he leads this team to greatness may have an argument.

I wanted the Canes to make the tourney this year . . . i wanted Jack McClinton to be on this list, just not enough tournament success for the Canes.

Conine will forever in my eyes be the greatest Marlin (unless somebody like Hanley plays here forever and breaks records) . . . but most beloved athlete in south Florida? I don't think he was ever the best player on any of the Marlin teams he was on. Just hard to make an argument for him.

Most beloved athlete? Nah Conine never got the love any of those guys did at one point in there career down here.
 
As far as the list goes, I can't believe Devo is not on this list . . . and why the hell is Alfonseca so high on this list. He was too Kevin Greggish for me.
 
i'd put hanley number one. maybe josh beckett. i did not expect luis castillo at all though. also, as much as i love amezaga, i have no clue how he made that list. i'd put any regular season starter over him. (devon white, dave magadan, juan encarnacion, oreste destrada, benito, anybody)
