But for now, I felt inspired to really think about the players (and there are a handful of youngsters in here, which is encouraging) who made Sunday’s game possible. I mean, they would have played the game either way, but there’s really a reason to watch now, you know?
And who knows, maybe some or many of these guys come through down the stretch for Miami. So here are my Top 7 Miami Dolphins who sparked a 2017 season turnaround (and yes, I know you are thinking that this may seem brainless in three weeks, but hey, what if it doesn’t?)
  1. Kenyan Drake, running back — Drake has injected Miami’s offense with pure speed and scintillating shiftiness. Drake ran for 120 yards against the Broncos and 114 yard against the Patriots. He’s got runs of 66, 42 and 31 yards, when Jay Ajayi didn’t have a run longer than 21 before his departure. Now comes the true test for Drake. Cold weather. Turf. Third straight workhorse game.

Out of the 7 players he called, 5 of them have been in the league less than 5 years. Finally our young players are stepping up and playing well. Imagine this.....another good draft and a couple of young FA pickups next year and this team will be (hopefully) making noise in two years. Way to go Phins.

The lack of talent argument always peeved me, especially the ones saying we might have had the worst roster in the NFL. With Drake and Ajayi we had a top 10 RB room at worst. WR corps is top 10 at worst. O-line seems average. TEs were meh but you have to think those are the guys the coach asked for.

On defense McCain looks good. Howard looks good. Tank looks like he will be a keeper. Lippett looked good last season. Maxwell looks OK in Seattle. Jones is good. All we're missing is a great free safety. So DBs are average at worst, but probably top 10. D-line would have been top 10 but Wake is showing his age a bit, so average at worst. LBer corps: this is probably the worst unit on the team but Tedd Slimm loved the Raekwon McMillan pick so I'm going to go out on a limb and say he'll be a great player. Alonso and Timmons are average at worst, flashing sometimes, especially in the screen game and trick plays. But they also look terrible sometimes, especially when targeted in the passing game. But we had nothing behind McMillan, so that is arguably Tannenbaums biggest sin.

Dunno. OL has been bad most of the year, but not ALL of the OL. Look around the OL and it's obvious replacing 2 good OLmen with 2 backups can make the whole unit look bad. LB? Not a good cover guy in the unit. TE? Awful. Why is Gray seen as so bad he gets few snaps? Other than that, units look average at worst or manned by players some see (correctly) as good, but not enough evidence.

Why would the lack of talent argument peev you? The talent was sorely missing for all the reasons you just described from Oline on offense to LB unit on defense. The reason I might change my stance is because the young players are finally getting their shot and playing well, hence we are seeing the talent that they possess.

I get the impression the poster wasn't peeved at the 'lack of talent' angle as much as "the ones saying we might have had the worst roster in the NFL." You know, the "blow it up and start over" crowd. Miami certainly needs some talent upgrades, but "worst roster?"

Well I was one of those "blow it up and start over" folks too especially early in the season, but if the young guys continue to play and develop well, I can see Miami bringing in additional pieces through the draft and FA while trimming fat.

I believe most rosters are average or "crowd", and we are no exception. I believe we have an 8-8 roster overall, its up to great coaching or great QB play to elevate "crowd" teams beyond 8-8. What peeves me is people using the roster as a preemptive excuse, then when we lose 5 in a row they say 'see, I told you the roster is full of uncoachable talentless, dumb, hacks.' Well if the roster is so bad how did we kick the snot out of the Patriots? IMO if we had an elite coach, like Jim Harbaugh, we would look like that every week. And this is not a knock on Gase, elite coaches are more rare than elite QBs. But its no coincidence that when a team lands an elite coach all of a sudden the talentless wasteland 'always had talent.'

Cutler has to go on that list. He's been playing better, too.

After a really bad game (admittedly not all his fault) vs the Bucs, he's been playing as well as could be asked the last couple of weeks.

Typical game at Buffalo. We have a really bad game there, more often than not— and that’s going back to the late 80s.

Definitive stake through the heart of the Dolphins’ playoff hopes, the ludicrous idea that Cutler would be starting next year, and the notion that this season had been turned around.

It's not so much a lack of talent overall, but that the team has some glaring weaknesses in important areas. It's hard to win without a good offensive line and, for much of the season, this has been a really bad unit. Has picked up as late, but still needs a lot of work.

What turn-around?
Exactly, haven't even seen us grabbing the wheel for a u-turn. Like always, we win our superbowl yearly game like last week and then maintain form as usual. Nothing at all new to us old guys here.
