With the current war of words that's being waged here on the boards in mind, I began to wonder what the best current rivalries are in sports. I know some of you will want to bring up some of the past rivalries that exist between teams but please, try to refrain as many of them (Bears v. Lions) that are more historic, aren't really all that interesting to those of us who aren't fans of one of those teams. Also, this doesn't have to be limited to football.

Here are my top rivalries at the moment:

NFL:
-Miami v. Buffalo: This one's historic AND current. These two teams playing each other is almost always considered top billing in the national spotlight (Bills suck!! :D)
-Tamp Bay v. Philly: Not in the same division but these two teams hate each other right now.

NBA:
-Lakers v. Kings: This one has my vote for the most heated rivalry in sports right now. Here are two teams that are at the top of their games who really, honestly, cannot stand one another right now.

IMO these are the most prominent rivalries in all of sports right now. I didn't list anything from MLB primarily because I can't stand baseball so I know very little about their rivalries, and I didn't post anything on NASCAR or the NHL because most people could give a rip about either of these sports (I'm not one of them, I enjoy them both) so they don't have any rivalries that rise to the national spotlight level very often.

Have fun and I hope to hear some interesting opinions on the subject.

I agree with you a 100% , I hate the queens.... :-)

shaq is such a funny guy, he always speaks out what he thinks and thats one reason why i love the lakers and i really hate the kings with Chris"Moving Screen" Webber.....

GO LAKERS !!! No team can beat them 4 times in 7 tries in the playoffs.

MLB: Red Sox vs. Yankees

College football: FSU vs. Florida
Alabama vs. Auburn
Texas vs. Texas A&M
USC vs. UCLA
Clemson vs. South Carolina

The list for college football rivalries goes on and on. The rivalries are very historic and in many cases they are important to national championship and huge bowl games. I think college football easily has the best rivalries.

I agree that college football has some excellent rivalries, but how many of them ever get big time national play? Not very many. We all know of the rivalries and we all pay attention to them, but are any of them so significant that they overshadow the rest of the sport when those teams play each other? I don't see it.

Well, since they are all during the same two week span, there are so many big games that one isn't that much more important than the other. However, FSU vs. Florida is always huge everywhere, and that game kind of overshadows the rest. Also, OSU vs. Michigan is huge too, but I think that's the week after FSU/Florida.
