The first two games of the season and even the off-season has proven that the Dolphins are in desperate need of playmakers - players who can make game changing plays on defense and offense.

1) A big time receiver. Someone who will force defensive coordinators to game plan for them and need double coverage to slow them down, thus enabling other teammates to see single coverage and have the ability to make plays. A Roy Williams as a free agent or a Crabtree in the draft.

2) A starting, top tier cornerback. There is no such thing as a shut-down corner anymore in the NFL, not with the pass interference rules. Top notch corners usually do not hit the open market and when they do they cost a pretty penny. The Dolphins have many needs so splurging on one of these guys may be too much. However, drafting two guys who can run and cover needs to be done, as well as a guy who is big enough to cover the Larry Fitzgeralds of the world.

3) A dominating, fast, big and ferocious linebacker, who can rush the passer and drop into coverage if needed. Demarcus Ware is a perfect example of this. Suggs from Baltimore should be avialable and I perfer spending money on him than a corner. You can make average corners look really good with a dominant pass rush. There will be some really good linebackers available in the first round of the draft, but the Dolphins may best using the top two picks on a receiver and a corner.

4) Resigning Carey and Crowder are very important this off-season. Carey more important than Crowder, who if he starts demanding too much money he can leave. The Dolphins will have money to spend and they should spend it wisely and with another solid draft and hopefully a strong free agency. This will not be fixed in one off-season but two more good off-seasons the Dolphins should have a contender.

I would agree with most of your post except I don't think resigning crowder is all that important. He's not a top flight LBer. Especially if you say we should go out and get one.

He's not bad, Just not a priority.

Its sad we are already talking "needs" for next year. Its week 3 :(

Sad Sad Sad...

Rumors have it they are going to let Crowder hit FA. I don't know it for a fact but the team did decline to talk about an extension. I agree Carey needs to be signed. I pretty much agree with what you posted. It's clear we need to both attack and defend the edges. The problem being TunaCo's philosiphy of building from the inside out. From what I've seen, the inside still needs a great deal of work, so, I'm wondering if this next draft will be about the outside at all.

The two obvious needs are receiver and corner...but they aren't the only needs.

So far the Dolphins could have 3 top 50 picks in the next draft...but I wouldn't be surprised to see them also active in free agency.

Two players at each position...receiver and secondary wouldn't surpise me at all.

I say we let Crowder hit free agency. He's not that valuable. We can always replace him with Reggie Torbor and I bet Ireland/Parcells can find us a middle linebacker to fit the 3-4 in the later rounds of the draft.

1) Roy Williams
2) Sign Chris Gamble and re sign will allen. Also draft a corner in the third
3) Either sign suggs and draft an ILB, or sign Karlos Dansby and draft an OLB.
4) Re-signing Carey is very important.

Your right wer not very far, but we need to hit on many of our draft picks. and the FA we sign have to step up and play to their contracts.

People are talking about next year to forget about the last 2 games, season is far from over, and even though it is extremely doubtful Miami will do that much damage tthis year, they could still turn it around bigtime.

I agree with everything, including how to sign those needs ie FA or draft, with one exception...Crowder...I'm just not sold on his performance yet.

Dont get me wrong...he is an NFL caliber LB, but I think he lacks playmaking ability i.e. turnovers, interceptions, the intangibles...its just an area that needs to be upgraded.

Roy Williams is total garbage in coverage. One of the worst coverage safeties in the league. Why in the hell would you want him ? To make our pass defense even worse ?

I've had the comic merriment of watching him get blowtorched for as long as he's been in the NFL, being forced to watch DAllas games. The man has very little buisness being on the field.
