In trying to analyze the Dolphins need for improvement in the running game I'm trying to find out what formation the top running teams such as the Vikings and Giants (and others) usually use.

FB?
H-Back?
Single Back?

We haven't had a good blocking fullback in Miami in a long time (#37, can't remember his name, from Auburn?)

FB. see Mack Strong in Seattle for Alexander, Lorenzo Neal in San Diego for LT, Lorenzo Neal in Baltimore for McLain, Tony Richardson in Minnesota for AP, Mike Sellars in Washington for Portis (though they use Cooley as an H-Back too)

main ones are Strong and Neal, two of the best running teams in the past decade

Imo Polite is solid at blocking and is good enough to open some holes for our RBs..

However other teams use more lead-blocking FBs, the Giants for example use Hedge**** as their blocking FB

The problem was other teams' lines opened up gaping holes. I do no think it is as large of a factor on the fullback/no fullback, as the attitude of "we built this team to line up and run the ball down your throat." The teams with that attitude sign the best run blocking fullbacks for that same reason. Meaning they also assembled a solid O-line.
The teams are built to run the ball.
I believe the Dolphins are being assembled the same way.

its all scheme, and its all in finding a very good fullback, like a Neal or like a Moose johnson or like a Griffith..... if you have a decent fullback or even a solid one, it isn't the same as having a GREAT one.

otherwise it's the offensive line.... Dallas with Emmit smith (maybe one of the bestest ever, and throw Moose in with them (WOW).... Denver Broncos zone blocking scheme, even with or without Griffith, yummy. When Green Bay could run very well like 10 years ago, great offensive line.... then add Chicago of the late 80's.... then add Detroit with Barry Sanders (and then you say, wait... that line was horrid.... and thy you look and see how amazing Barry sanders actually was, with not that great passing attack taboot.... Barry Sanders, wow)...... NOW, add Miami Dolphins of '09 to that list, a young and aggressive line that will open gaping holes for our 3 RB's and Plite with goalline opportunities, a line that shall destroy all and guide miami into the superbowl and give glory to fans that thought they would pass away before miami would ever win the lombardi.... it starts in the trenches!!!!! the FB needs the space and opportunity to move around himself ad get to the defense

With the help our O-line has got in the last few weeks, and pending any injuries. I hope they will be able to open up holes and pull so we don't really need a FB. It just depends on the situation though.

Polite has done a good job blocking, and has shown he can catch out of the backfield. He works for now.

Like the guys that were mentioned above, great FB only comes along so often.

I Beg To Disagree On The Quality Of Our Blocking Fb

Imo Polite is solid at blocking and is good enough to open some holes for our RBs..

However other teams use more lead-blocking FBs, the Giants for example use Hedge**** as their blocking FB

I BEG TO DISAGREE ON THE QUALITY OF OUR BLOCKING FB!!

I think we need a bulldozer-type fullback and Polite is just too Polite to be it.

Give credit where it is due. He consistently got us the 12" to 2 yards whenever we needed it!!
