The NFL trade deadline is Nov. 3 and between now and then we play @ Tenn, Houst, and @ NE. I'm thinking that IF we win 2 or 3 games it is very unlikely anything happens. However, if we lose 2 or 3 games, it may get interesting.

I believe we are in for a pretty major overhaul of our roster under a new coaching staff, and do not see Wake and Grimes (among others) fitting in. I see it taking 2-3 years before we can contend with both being too old to contribute when hopefully we do.

I would look to trade both this year for a few reasons.

We would save roughly $5M on each for this year's salary.

We should get better value in trade, as the trading team only has to pay roughly $5M for each for the rest of the year, and there is no guaranteed money to deal with next year. They can also re-do their contracts with a new signing bonus if they like. I'm guessing we could get around a 3rd rounder from teams going to make playoff runs.

We take a look at the young CB's, Fede, etc.

I have to consider others like Jennings, Misi, and maybe even Albert as well.

I would keep Grimes. Wake I am dropping next year so I would look to trade him, but do not think you are getting much for him.

Trading Grimes would be demoralizing to the team, since it would basically mean giving up on the season. We need to see if Dan Campbell can fire up the troops, and turn this team into a winner.

From what I have seen, most players gave up on opening day.

IF we win 2 or 3 of the next 3, nothing happens. The opposite happens, and we should give up on the season, and salvage what we can out of it. A couple of picks and an additional $10M in cap space would not be a bad thing.

I believe it would be better cap/dead money wise to release the 5 players you mentioned next year
trading them this season would add close to $20 million to our league leading $24 million in dead money

Wake($8.4 million cap savings)...$1.4M dead money
Grimes($8M cap savings)...$1.5M dead money
Albert($8.45 cap savings)...$1.7M dead money
Jennings($4M cap savings)...$1.5 M dead money
Misi($4.3 cap savings)...$578k dead money

Next year Pouncey counts $10,025,000 towards the cap
I'd have to ask him to take a pay cut...No way he is a $10 million a year player

Jordan Cameron counts $9,500,000 towards the cap next season
another player who needs to take a pay cut

What you wrote is already the case! The team is demoralized and they have given yup on the season.

Philbin & Coyle are now gone.

Give Dan Campbell a chance to fire up the troops, and turn the ship around.

Not true Ron. The cap hits we take are the same now or later in signing bonuses accelerated. The pro-rated salaries THIS YEAR would be taken over by a trading team, and that is roughly $5M each for Wake and Grimes. Nothing else changes.

Jenning would cost maybe $500K to move but, that's it.

Agreed but, if we cannot win 2 of the next 3 games the season is over barring a MIRACLE.

I don't make any trades. You trade if you are a serious contender in need of a player that fills one of your few deficiencies. We have so many I'd prefer to see how these guys play under Campbell and reevaluate the roster after the season.

Who would take over Wake and Grimes salary for the rest of this season and the rest of their contracts?
I'm sure the players wouldn't want to restructure to take less money when they could stay put and if released
in the future could pick their destinations

We may well do that but, in doing so, give up $10M in cap space and a higher trade value in picks for aging players. Not a smart move. JMO

Fire-breathing warrior Dan Campbell is trying to implement a new culture.

So until we have 8 losses, I want the "violent" "primates" (as he calls them) to keep fighting forward.

Implementing a "we give up" policy at 5 losses would undercut what Dan Campbell is trying to build.

A trading team would only take over the contract balance ($5M) this year, and have the choice to pay the next year's contracts as there is no guaranteed money.

The players are under contract through next year, and are not in control. I believe aging players looking to be in the playoffs would re-do contracts but, that is their option.

I'm just trying to find the best option for our team.

i hear you but what do you realistically think we can fetch for one of those guys? For someone to give us good value for Grimes would need to be a team that thinks they are a CB away from a SB this year. The again, the Bears just did this w Jarred Allen for only a 6th. I don't like those trades because you don't get anything really in return.
