When reading draft forums, you consistently read fans saying that we should trade down and acquire more picks since we have so many needs. The most important thing for that to happen is that there has to be a player available that another team wants to trade up for. For those wanting to trade down, here are a few scenarios that would likely have to play out in order for that to happen.
If Zeke Elliot is available when the Dolphins are on the clock, a team like Indianapolis or even Washington might be willing to move up because I think the Raiders would strongly consider Elliot at 14 if he is available.
I think there is a real possibility that Joey Bosa drops due to the rumors of partying. A team like Detroit could move up a few spots to pass Tennessee. Even Atlanta, who picks directly behind Detroit, could trade up in front of Tennessee and Detroit.
If Ronnie Stanley drops, Tennessee, Detroit, and Indianapolis all need OT and could try to trade up to secure him. Stanley represents great value so I wouldn't be too upset if the Dolphins drafted him, although I would rather draft the greater need at CB or LB.
Likely, the best value available players available when the Dolphins are on the clock looks to be at DE and CB, which happen to be two of the deepest positions in this year's draft, and two of the Dolphins biggest needs. I'm not saying it is likely, I'm just saying that there are a few different scenarios that aren't far-fetched that lend itself to the Dolphins being able to trade down in the draft.
