When reading draft forums, you consistently read fans saying that we should trade down and acquire more picks since we have so many needs. The most important thing for that to happen is that there has to be a player available that another team wants to trade up for. For those wanting to trade down, here are a few scenarios that would likely have to play out in order for that to happen.
If Zeke Elliot is available when the Dolphins are on the clock, a team like Indianapolis or even Washington might be willing to move up because I think the Raiders would strongly consider Elliot at 14 if he is available.
I think there is a real possibility that Joey Bosa drops due to the rumors of partying. A team like Detroit could move up a few spots to pass Tennessee. Even Atlanta, who picks directly behind Detroit, could trade up in front of Tennessee and Detroit.
If Ronnie Stanley drops, Tennessee, Detroit, and Indianapolis all need OT and could try to trade up to secure him. Stanley represents great value so I wouldn't be too upset if the Dolphins drafted him, although I would rather draft the greater need at CB or LB.
Likely, the best value available players available when the Dolphins are on the clock looks to be at DE and CB, which happen to be two of the deepest positions in this year's draft, and two of the Dolphins biggest needs. I'm not saying it is likely, I'm just saying that there are a few different scenarios that aren't far-fetched that lend itself to the Dolphins being able to trade down in the draft.

Partying rumors are not true and teams know it. Bosa was suspended for academic reasons.

I would consider maybe trading down to the Vikings pick area and look there for Nkemdiche or Alexander. Maybe, not so sure, depends on the deal.

Yeah, but why would the Vikings want to trade up?

Wouldn't partying and academic suspension go hand in hand?

Also OSU is known to be a party atmosphere almost all the time, it's not outrageous to believe he partied his effing but off while being a star on campus!

Yeah most of these guys party for sure.

But this younger generation does a lot more party drugs, And rumor is Bosa & Zeke enjoyed them quite a bit.

Mix that lifestyle with Miami and it can turn bad quick. Guys like them have never had to answer to anyone, if they decide they want to keep partying, there's really nothing you can do to stop them. IMO Bosa reminds me a lot of Manziel personality wise.

I've had Buckner going ahead of him for awhile because of that.

I still think Paxton Lynch could induce a trade-up, but Miami would likely have to move down quite a bit.

Yeah im not to sure about that. I hear rumors there might have been some pot smoked at Woodstock. Theres also that whole 80's thing...

To answer the OP: id be stunned if Ronnie Stanley dropped to 13. If he did we should grab him(that was weird for me to type) but i just can't see him making it past the Bucs, Bears, and the Saints(Jeff Ireland).

That said, i think theres a fair chance we could trade back. Less because of offensive tackles and more so due to Sheldon Rankins. A guy who's drawing comparisons to Aaron Donald and could play in either a 4-3 or 3-4. Pass rushers are still coveted and interior rushers are even rarer. I won't deny the Colts need to do a better job protecting the franchise but they just resigned Anthony Castonzo. Meanwhile that defense damn near cost Chuck Pagano his job and the line in particular desperately needs an infusion of talent. So too could the Falcons continue to beef up their defense. They've already invested heavily in their linebackers while cutting Paul Soliai.

Both teams (or anyone else) knows they have to leap in front of the Raiders, who seem encouraged with where they are on offense. Aaron Donald, Sheldon Richardson, and Nick Fairley were all nabbed with the 13th pick, Dontari Poe went at 11, and Star Lotulelei was grabbed at 14, so we are right in the range where teams are comfortable taking defensive tackles.

I'd approve. As much as id love to add a stud like Rankins, i'm intrigued by the idea of securing our linebacking core while acquiring more picks(preferably for next year).

Yeah, that's an interesting scenario. Miami has spent a lot of time on linebackers with seemingly a lot of interest in Su'A Cravens, Jordan Jenkins and Dion Jones. All of those project in the 2nd round range, although I've seen Cravens mocked 3rd and 4th round.

Getting an extra pick (maybe a third if it's Indy) could mean potentially adding two linebackers early in the draft.

One pro scout on Bosa....

“He’s a meathead, but he’s a football meathead,” he said, adding that he wasn’t sure if he sees first-pick-of-the-draft talent. “I do like him. He’s very good. He doesn’t have a lot of juice coming off the edge. Everything is power, hands. He’s really good against the run.”

I have no doubt he did his share of partying but I'm not that worried about his football character. He is Jeff Spicoli 2.0. Have you heard the guy speak? WoW! I heard when they gave him the wonderlic test, he bench pressed it 400 times.
