In the long run, I believe trading down is what Nick Saban will ideally want to do. He wants more than five picks in this draft. The closer to the draft we get, the more teams below us are going to want to position themselves to get the player they want.

First up, the Minnesota Vikings. According to many, there are two top wide receivers in this draft, Braylon Edwards and Mike Williams. If anything is done here, I doubt it is done before the draft. Minnesota may be talking with the 49ers as well, which could be the reason a lot of media outlets have been mentioning the 49ers and Braylon Edwards lately. Minnesota is a team that could get a bit antsy if they think the possibility is strong that neither of the top wide receivers will drop to the seventh pick. Any possible deal will start with Minnesota giving up the 7th and the 18th picks in this draft, along with other possible considerations.

Second, the Arizona Cardinals appear to really want Alex Smith. Miami has been putting out the vibe lately that they are very interested in Alex Smith, as well as the other top quarterback in the draft. Arizona has the 8th pick, and like Minnesota, if anything happens, it will likely be done after the 49ers make their pick. Any deal would start with their first round pick, the 8th overall, and their second round pick, the 44th pick in the draft. That's not enough for the 2nd pick though, so you may see Miami ask Arizona to throw in their first round pick next year as well.

Third, you have the Washington Redskins who are dying to move up for a wide receiver. Even if Edwards is taken with the first pick, Washington may be willing to move up so they can get Mike Williams. I believe they know that there is no way Williams will drop to the 9th pick. The problem Washington has is that they carry little ammo for a deal. They don't have a second round pick.

Also, it looks like the talks between Kansas City and Miami are heating back up concerning Patrick Surtain, so Miami may be adding a second round pick, the 46th overall, by the time the draft is here.

If Miami can pull off a deal with Minnesota, they will be armed with 3 picks in the top 50. Nick Saban will certainly get three major contributors with those picks.

In the end, Miami could end up with an allottment of picks:

First Round
7th
18th

Second Round
46th

Third Round
70th

Fourth Round
98th

Fifth Round
129th
145th (from the Rams for Zgonina)

Seventh Round
193rd
