There is a lot of discussions about trading pics and we all know this organisation values draft pics and doesn’t like to give them up without good reason.
1. Sent a 20084th to Dallas for Fasano and Ayodele… getting 2 starters for 1 pick… quality move.
2. Sent a 2010 5th to KC for Thigpen when Pennington went down.. need, good move
3. Sent a 2009 7th to KC last year for their 7th this year because.. well.. they didn’t like anyone when it came to their pick… love it.. this just reeks of having cahones.
So, like they did last year (if memory serves me correct and feel free to jump in here and correct me) when they traded down in the 2nd and still got Sean Smith. I do feel that there could be a high percentage chance they trade down from the 12th overall.
In terms of BPA and Need… McClain could be very well matched at that spot. If taken before that, it could leave someone like Dez Bryant at 12, a very attractive and cost effective situation for some of the teams picking later in the 1st, who may feel they are a top notch WR away from making a run at playoffs/Super Bowl in 2010. (He could very easily fall to 12 plus with him not having played for some time, could that impact on how he shows at combine/workouts etc.
To get a player of that calibre, would they be willing to trade up swopping firsts and giving up their 2nd? It’s a tough call but possible if they have the inclination they are close to that championship and need a playmaker like Bryant. Maybe we need to add to the deal - Ginn? a 6th?
As history has shown us with inside/middle Linebakers and most recently with Ray Maualuga they tend to drop while the work out warriors and speed demons increase their stock and move up boards throughout the combine and personal workout season.
Possible trading partners could be?
Pittsburgh – Hines Ward is slowing down and their running game has been boosted. D an issue but Big Ben needs a stud along side their other WR SB MVP.
Cincinnatti - With the tragic loss of Chris Henry, last years departure of Houshmanzadeh and Chad 8-5 showing a little decline…?
Patriots – yes I know, unlikely to trade within the division.. but with the “issues” around Randy Moss this year the concern over the healthy return of Welker? And they have 3 picks in round 2
Baltimore – they only have 1 WR on their roster (joke) but it appears that way? To possibly sweeten the deal throw in Ginn and ask for a 6/7th in addition to their 2nd round.
Jets – yes another division foe, but, strong D, Strong running game, big time rookie QB (apparently) and again, just 1 WR…???
So for sake of argument, we are successful in trading down, to late 1st and get an extra 2nd. We could quite possibly fill the 3 main needs on D in the first 2 rounds… it starts up front in my humble opinion so I’ve left FS to priority no 4. Leaving the later part of the draft to go after TE/RB/ additional LB's
Round 1 - Dan Williams
Round 2a - Spikes
Round 2b- Brandon Graham/Ricky Sapp
