Back in the 80's Don Shula trade two 1st round picks for Green. We lost that trade because one guy did not make our team better and now we had no 1st round picks two years in a row.
The Wanny traded two 1st round picks plus a 2nd round pick to get Ricky Williams. He was a good player for us but now we had no picks to build with.

Last night we traded away Tunsil and got two 1st round picks plus a 2nd and imo that's the way to go. When you're only one or two players away then you hold onto your top players and add the couple more that you need. When you're rebuilding then you get as many picks as possible regardless of how many games you lose this year. Are we going to win one or two games this year? How many would we win with Tunsil? 4? 5?

It was about time we did a real complete and total rebuilt and have that many picks is the way to go. To the people that say this team does not deserve the benefit of the doubt when it comes to drafting. I can't blame you cause I have said the same thing. But with Flores, Allen and Mac helping out I'm hoping we can draft much better and this coming draft in 2020 has a lot of good players at positions where we need help.

Except we didnt get 2 1st and a 2nd for just Tunsil, it was for our Starting LT and our #1 Receiver.

Not only that, but Tunsil is a player who has 'merely' been pretty good. Very frustrating for the team since he got here; he has never reached his potential. He's never been the player that was projected to go in the top five of the draft and become a perennial pro-bowler.

It was obviously the right move.

The ultimate trade down. Grier finally pulled it off, he's the trade man. Top LT's are always going to be better in college than the pros and I believe Jake Longs first years were better than Tunsil's have been. We just have to hope for a Texans bust. Stills is on my fantasy team but I'm not expecting much from him. This is finally shaping up to look like a team that is building for the future.

Our "#1 receiver" was, in reality, an average #2, who's greatest asset was his speed to take the top off a defense, and we have other speedsters that are much cheaper. That is not what you want in a #1, and he was destined to be gone next year in any case. His salary exeeded his value. Let's face it, he also did not exactly endear himself to the man signing his pay checks either. That is never a good idea in any walk of life, irrespective of the reasons, or situation.

I’d agree but considering how we whif on players over the years. Then you have a Pro Bowl caliber player drop in our laps that you can’t screw up. That was a gift from the football gods that year with Tunsil.

We see it every year. We draft guys in higher rounds. That higher pick never pans out but we get lucky and draft some good players in lower rounds that make you forget about the underperforming higher pick.

We got a Kong’s random. Better at least get one player out of those picks that’s better than Tunsil.

Miami can do a lot of damage in next year’s draft if they make smart selections. On the other hand, if they draft a converted QB and some no name from a no name school because of potential then that is also no bueno.

But he's not a quality #1 and that has been proven over his career. He's a 2/3 on most teams. He's likely the third receiver on the team he got traded to.

Do you consider Shaq Calhoun a starting quality player? Because he's a starter on this team, too.

Bottom line: this is a trade you absolutely make, especially on a rebuilding team, as long as it isn't your franchise QB (which we won't have until next April).

I view it as

2 1st round picks for Tunsil, the 2nd for Stills + 4th... I don't think we were BIG WINNERS in this, but I don't consider it a loss either. I think it was a pretty even trade considering the Texans are going to get Tunsil for $12mil for the next 2 years. You need to factor this in.

Well thats a different problem, if you're making moves based on your GMs poor skills at something, dont change the correct strategy, change the bad GM...

I would say not if you're trying to win now and that player is crucial to your success.

Definitely yes when you're trying to rebuild your team from the ground up. Which is Miami's case.

The Dolphins are trying to maximize their chances at finding their franchise QB and building a solid team around him. This gives them a better shot at doing just that.

It was Tunsil's 2nd year on the team when he seemed to have a lack of commitment and lackadaisical attitude. He didn't perform that 1st year he played LT. But last season he began to improve and thought he was turning the corner. The expectations began to rise for him. And that expectation was blinded. Apparently Flores felt he wasn't worth the investment due to continued issues. So they traded him for a kings ransom. A Very Smart Move. They are going to build a team of players who want it. And play like it. No more copping out.
